A lot of discussion about the QB fits for the #49ers at No. 3. Wanted to look to see who was doing the things the Niners ask most of their QBs. Obviously, all drafted players are a projection but worth looking at considering Kyle Shanahan mentioned "comfort" with 3 QBs. (Thread)

Since Shanahan took over in '17, #49ers have taken the 3rd-most total snaps under center (52.13& of offensive snaps). They also have 3rd-most drop backs under center and 3rd-most play-action drop backs under center in that span. 33.8% of total passing yards off PA in that span.

Clearly, #49ers put a premium on the ability to do those things with their QB. Doesn't mean they can't expand or adapt (and they should!) based on their QB's skills. But worth noting how the top QBs have done in these areas in college...

North Dakota State QB Trey Lance in his college career:

- 30% of drop backs came from under center
- 24.3% of drop backs came from under center with PA
Under center: 65-95 (68.4%), 992 yards, 13 TD, 1 Int
Under center w/ PA: 53-77 (68.8%), 847 yards, 12 TD, 0 Int

Ohio State QB Justin Fields in his college career:

- 6.3% of drop backs came from under center
- 5.8% of drop backs came from under center with PA
Under center: 27-36 (75%) for 412 yards, 8 TD, 0 Int
Under center w/ PA: 26-35 (74.3%), 384 yards, 8 TD, 0 Int

Alabama QB Mac Jones in his college career:

- 1.9% of drop backs came from under center (11 total drop backs)
- 1.9% of drop backs from under center with PA (all 11)
Under center AND under center with PA: 6-10 for 53 yds, 3 TD-1 Int

BYU QB Zach Wilson in his college career (just in case):

- 9.2% of drop backs came from under center
- 5.2% of drop backs from from under center with PA
Under center: 39-58 (67.2%), 506 yards, 13 TD-0 Int
Under center w/ PA: 24-39 (61.5%), 367 yards, 8 TD, 0 Int

I'm sure folks will draw their own conclusions from this and I'll have more on it next week. But just think it's worth looking at what QBs have been asked to do and how they've done it relative to where they go when discussing how they might fit/project in an offense.(End thread)
