Alright I can't stop thinking about this idea so I made a mockup. What if the Hierarchy and Project tree-view windows in Unity were replaced by a single window inspired by the macOS Finder "Columns" layout? #unity3d
Would you use this in your layout? Or are you too attached to Project/Hierarchy? I think I would, probably at the bottom of the screen, like that:
alright I started putting together a proof of concept to see how I feel about the UX. So far it feels... surprisingly good? The keyboard navigation is intuitive.
A lot of you are mentioning the need for a "root hierarchy" and "root project" window, so I thought of this feature to collapse column and redefine the root of the navigator window. You can even go deeper in the tree and use that as a root!

Grade: A-
Audacious juxtaposition of organic media (banana peel) and manufactured media (coffee lids). A contemporary nod to Munch. But the Tim Burton aesthetic is passé.

Grade: B+
