Today we started providing meals to the 100 people getting returned to Mexico each day under Title 42 — after being flown across Texas and bused to the border. Lots of tears when families learn they are now in Juarez, but even more tears when they are told shelters are full. 🧵👇
We met a family from Honduras—husband and wife traveling with their 3 kids. They recently lost their home in Hurricane Eta. We met a single mom from Guatemala with two children who made the trek with a family friend. Both women recently lost their husbands. 🧵👇
On the menu today: Turkey asada tortas with guacamole, lettuce & tomato. Turkey asada is a staple in Juarez. The Mexican government and local groups provide information & support to the new arrivals—but with no shelters available, families are released to the unfamiliar streets.
