Featuring everything from full-page ads for the Grateful Dead to interviews with Timothy Leary, no other publication epitomized the alternative ideals of a generation quite like the San Francisco Oracle.

It embodied the alternative ideals of a whole generation, and incarnated a new way of utopian living that for a millisecond actually seemed like an enduring possibility.
sfgate.com/sf-culture/art…
Founded in 1966 by New Yorker-turned-San Franciscan Allen Cohen, the underground paper played a crucial role in provoking, accelerating, and reflecting an exhilarating new movement the city would forever be linked to: the psychedelic '60s.

The idea first came to him in a dream:

"One morning in the late spring of 1966 I dreamt that I was flying around the world," he'd later recall. "When I looked down, I saw people reading a newspaper with rainbows printed on it."
At its peak, the San Francisco Oracle printed over 100,000 copies per issue.

But after chronicling one of the city's most vibrant eras in real-time, it also faded away, lasting a mere twelve issues before ceasing publication in early 1968.

“If you tell a 30-something male that he’s Jesus Christ, he’s inclined to believe you.”

The striking quote sums up WeWork co-founder and former CEO Adam Neumann's tendency to distort reality.

Founded in 2010 in New York’s SoHo district, WeWork quickly became the biggest name in the co-working industry by attracting hip tech startups with sleek designs and millennial perks like cold brew coffee.

The company thrived on a work hard, play hard culture that included alcohol-fueled WeWork Summer Camp events which were dubbed “Fyre Fest done right.”

If you got a COVID-19 vaccine, then you likely received a paper card that confirms you were inoculated.
sfgate.com/bayarea/articl…
Since a countrywide vaccine passport program that would allow you to download an app as proof of immunization hasn't been developed yet, this card will be your ticket to activities with vaccine requirements.

Some cruise lines have announced vaccine requirements to sail, for example.

In San Francisco, Giants fans need proof of a negative COVID test or vaccination to attend a game.

Disneyland has dropped its list of which attractions won't be operating when the resort reopens on April 30.

Here's what won't be operating, at least initially, when Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure open to guests:

Some of these are not a surprise.

Jungle Cruise is being renovated to remove culturally insensitive depictions, and Astro Blasters and the Matterhorn are also listed as "closed for refurbishment."

Many of the other still-shuttered attractions are indoor-only, like the castle walkthrough and the Main Street Cinema.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday the state will advance out of the color-coded tier system that restricts businesses in less than three months if cases continue to decline, vaccines continue to roll out and people continue to wear their masks.

"We are moving beyond the blueprint," said Newsom.

"On June 15, we will be moving beyond the blueprint and getting ride of the colored tiers. We’ll be getting rid of the dimmer switch."
sfgate.com/bayarea/articl…
The governor added that "it will be back to business as usual."

With the end to the tier system, California will move into this next phase where the state is fully reopened.

No one is sure what he's looking for, or why he's so far from home.

He may be in search of territory, mates or prey, but whatever OR-93 is seeking, it's taken him on an unprecedented journey that's gripped wildlife watchers for over two months now.

The most recent update from the young male grey wolf's collar reveals that he's closer than ever to the Bay Area.

"The last reading we received was Saturday and showed him to be in San Benito County," California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Jordan Traverso tells SFGATE.

"He has crossed both 99 and Interstate 5 while he’s been in the state."

Austin has something of a mythic reputation in the Bay Area.

It's come to represent a land of opportunity for those priced out of SF, and especially during the pandemic, an escape route for tech workers no longer bound by physical offices.
sfgate.com/tech/article/t…
“Silicon Hills,” a nickname seldom spoken aloud in the Lone Star State, has come to represent the city’s burgeoning reputation as a tech hub.

And every day more tech companies seem to be fleeing for triple digit temps and zero digit state income taxes.
sfgate.com/tech/article/t…
As more and more Silicon Valley workers decamp for Austin, the expectation is that the grass will be greener.
