New DC Medical Examiner Report:

Of the 5 people whose deaths are connected to the Capitol riot, 4 were pro-Trump supporters:

* 2 of heart attack
* 1 of amphetamine poisoning
* 1 from homicide (Ashli Babbitt)
* Still do not know the "cause and manner of death" for Off. Sicknick.
So: 3 months after the NYT & national press corps drowned US discourse over a month with a harrowing but false story about a pro-Trump mob bashing Officer Sicknick's skull in with a fire extinguisher, they still can't say what caused his death on Jan 7:

greenwald.substack.com/p/the-false-an…
Here's a reminder of just a small portion of what the national press said over and over about Officer Sicknick's death -- just completely false, with very little retraction or explanation. Watch:

Also, not only have there been no investigations released or facts given about what the DC Medical Examiner is calling the "homicide" of Ashli Bobbitt -- who was unarmed -- they still have not even released the name of the officer who fatally shot her in the neck at close range.

This was one of the most infuriating parts of the Trump era. I started writing about politics to denounce Bush/Cheney lawlessness & their attacks on civil liberties. Watching those who did that rebuild their careers by marching under the "rule of law" banner was nauseating.
The central purpose of the neocon project during Bush/Cheney was to eliminate all legal constraints. The overarching theory was that the President could do anything -- start wars, bomb, kill, kidnap, spy on Americans -- no matter what the law said.

glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/01/ideolo…
Neocons migrated back to the Dem Party and now are its most vocal and loyal supporters not because they abandoned those theories -- they didn't -- but because, *before Trump*, they concluded that is the Party now most hospitable to their warped agenda.

My New Book on Journalism, Exposing Corruption, and the Resulting Risks, Dangers and Societal Changes

greenwald.substack.com/p/my-new-book-…
On Mother's Day in 2019, I obtained a massive archive of materials from Brazil's most powerful officials. The reporting we did changed the country, and our lives.

I regard the book as at least as much about journalism and democracy in general as it is about Brazil.
In terms of both the dangers and threats, but also the societal changes it fostered, I regard the journalism I was able to do with the courageous team of young journalists at @TheInterceptBr as being as intense & consequential as the Snowden reporting. This book tells that story.

I'll be on Fox's MediaBuzz show at 11:40 am ET, on the latest proof of the authenticity of the Hunter Biden docs that Facebook & US media suppressed, as well as USA Today's attempt to prevent people from raising legal funds, part of media's ongoing targeting of private citizens:
Columns like this one from Maureen Dowd continue to confuse what the Biden story was about. Nobody responsible cares about Hunter's drug use or consensual adult sex. Only issue was his influence-trading in Ukraine & China & Joe Biden's involvement:

nytimes.com/2021/04/03/opi…
Pretending that the Biden laptop story was about sex or drugs is utterly deceitful. A person's addiction struggles & consensual adult sex is not news. The story was (and is) about financial corruption. And there's *zero* doubt the docs were authentic:

My debut column for @CartaCapital -- on how so many of the crises in Brazilian democracy with Bolsonaro can be traced to the unjust 2016 impeachment of Dilma and the corruption of the "anti-corruption" Car Wash probe -- is now available in English:

cartacapital.com.br/glenn-greenwal…
The column also describes my own involvement in Brazilian journalism and what led me to use my platform to start reporting on Brazil. 🇧🇷
I have lots of great interviews lined up for next week to talk about my new book -- about Brazil and my experiences with Bolsonaro doing the reporting we did -- that will be out on Tuesday. Given everything that's going on there, the timing is perfect.

Hilarious attempt by @mattyglesias to deny the reality that MSNBC (and CNN's) ratings are plummeting with Trump gone: he cites the first quarter, which includes January when Trump was still in office, with the Capitol riot & impeachment trial. Try looking now:
That MSNBC & CNN's ratings are plummeting with Trump gone is an indisputable fact that, evidently, only @mattyglesias is denial about:

variety.com/vip/cable-news…
WashPost, to its credit, published a long article showing the data manipulation that Matt "Data Journalist Explainer" Yglesias just tried to peddle. They all had a ratings boom in January *because of Trump* - election fraud claims, Jan. 6, impeachment. Now it's all collapsing.

The issue with @ACLU is a bit more complex. They still have a few great lawyers who do old-school civil liberties work independent of partisan agendas. But the ACLU hides that work because they're so dependent on liberal donors, and because the dominant faction there opposes it:
ACLU still does stuff like represents NRA against NY State's attempt to destroy it. They represent @Snowden; still represent white supremacists' free speech & condemn Assange's prosecution. But they mostly hide rather than promote that. And it's increasingly just a liberal group.
From what I hear, one of the best reporters at the NYT is doing a big examination of the internal changes & factional conflicts within the ACLU: how liberal activism & Dem partisanship are drowning civil liberties. I examined some of that here:
