1/n Dear @ImranKhanPTI sir an appeal. Dubai, Singapore & Estonia are considered leaders in digital government in the world. Some of Dubai's most far reaching, impactful digital goverment projects have been done by a most capable Pakistani, Dr Sohail Munir.
2/n I had the pleasure to meet Dr Sohail many years earlier when as a younger man he built one of the most advanced Data Centers in the world for our military, one which is still operational today. I was blown away by his competence & humility & followed his stellar career.
3/n He is a world renowned GovTech thought leader who is heading Digital Transformation at Dubai Government as an Advisor of Emerging Technologies & Digital Transformation at Smart Dubai. He has 25 years of bleeding edge professional experience in the US, Pakistan & UAE.
4/n Here he is on the Youtube channel of one of the world's greatest business schools Insead sharing his expertise at the world's leading Blockchain summit discussing Blockchain use cases for government. What even in US they talk about he has already done
5/n Here is his bio at the leading Blockchain conference where he is described thus: "Simply, this guest at Blockchain NeXt is one of the biggest experts in this field." He was a VVIP guest at this conference in Poland medium.com/@blockchainnex…
6/n Here he is being hosted by PM of Estonia whom he wowed. No easy task. Estonia did blockchain before the word was invented & is the European and World leader in digital government. Also bonus pic with the legend John Mcafee because why not?
7/n Why such accolades & opportunities? Well he's brilliant:
Doctor of Engineering in Engineering Management
PhD in Computer Science
MSc in Data Analytics
MSc in Industrial & Systems Engineering
MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
BSc in Computer and Information Science
8/n Two world leading projects he did are critical for Pakistan's destiny: He conceived and Launched UAE's Digital Identity UAE PASS. He did first ever production blockchain implementation in Government Sector for Settlement and Reconciliation of all Dubai Government payments.
9/n Sir in last ten years India has built a combination of digital identity & universal payment system which has powered its payments revolution. India can easily expect a boost of far more than a trillion dollars in less than a decade because of these initiatives.
10/n This is an advantage so great & strategic it should be treated as a national security threat. UPI crossed 10 lakh crore PKR in March with 2.3 billion transactions!!! Our response was to have been led by NADRA. Sadly sir there has been none. The world uses India as example
11/n Today I hear that Dr Sohail Munir may become Chairman NADRA. I am ecstatic! The man has done national identity project, knows emerging disruptive tech, has done national payments project! He can do digital idnetity and enablers like data definition law we need. Wow!
12/n Then I hear baseless rumors. He worked for Indian companies. He has American nationality. His company was blacklisted. All lies. As is always the case competency threatens mafias. This is how Pakistan is but sir NADRA is pivotal to digitizing Pakistan. Here are 2 examples
13/n Digital identity stack + SBP's RAAST will empower SMB's. That SMB empowerment through increased investment & productivity will give you 11B USD a year extra in GDP. Our ecommerce turnover is miniscule. Even with a 5% conversion of our retail market it's another 10B a year
14/n As a nation we're missing key basic building blocks of digitial & now have an opportunity to fix this grave flaw. This is a letter of appreciation from Deputy Ruler of Dubai for his work on "Invest in Dubai". Ofcourse the parasites of the status quo will not want this man
15/n Sir the CIO of SECP has singlehandedly made Pakistan jump most in global ease of business rankings. You have hired people in Ministry of IT who are quietly doing immense work on policy. Amer Hashmi as head of STZA is a bold and brilliant choice.
16/n Together these people are building a digital blueprint to unleash the potential of this nation & provide opportunity to its youth at scale. Dr Sohail Munir is needed to finish the work. Once data, identity & payments combine not even bureacrats can stop the revolution....
n/n .... It will run on its own, free from the stasis of the mafias, the elites, protectionist business groups & all forces that hold this country hostage. Mr. Prime Minister this tech revolution in just one term will be the greatest legacy of your first government. Let it be so.

It's the shadi season. I attended ten mehndis with ten PTI ministers. A thread....:
Faisal Vawda. We enter the Mehndi at 1 am. He's wearing a leather vest. He's an amazing dancer. There's a lot of hooting. He makes sure we drink the good stuff. On way back he stops & puts me in an artillery gun and fires me across the border laughing maniacally. I'm in Jalalabad
Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Treats me like a friend. Never gets up but meets everyone. He looks pensive; Is it the happiness? Is it the youth? What bugs him? I ask him. He responds in Saraiki. I don't know what he said. It sounds beautiful. Someone translates. He's told me to f*** off
Humans as we know it are born of genocide. Gather around ye to hear the tale of a 150,000 year war for our survival.
Over half a million years ago the known world was split between Homo Sapiens who had fortified themselves inside Africa and Neanderthals who roamed Asia & Europe
Neanderthals were not primitive compared to us. They were quite similar. They made fire, buried their dead, made edgy jewellery and worshipped at stone shrines. They were also top of the food chain as skilled hunters who could use spears to hunt game as big as mammoths
The two sister species clashed in the Middle East (Again?!!) & were held to a stalemate. Finally 200,000 years ago Homo Sapiens broke out of Africa & started pushing Neanderthals back. Was it superior numbers, better battle tactics or an unknown legendary commander we don't know
1/8 We're confused about what will happen in the future. Here is an attempt to explain a possible timeline for Pakistan. Our immediate aim is a soft landing that takes us away from the economically debilitating lockdown led mitigation strategy, and towards surgical interventions
2/8 But to do that we need data on infection clusters and our own transmission rates. That will only come from testing. A 2 week lockdown not give us that data as our kits haven't arrived. Lifting it will also increase spread and death. Here is an indicative simulation from US
3/8 We should go into lockdown until June 1st. That allows the heat to come blazing in. Allows us to test maniacally to identify cluster areas so we can strategically lift lockdown, provinces can break transmission chains & limit uncontrolled spread. This needs aggression + data
Now that Corona Virus is confirmed in Karachi here's a Twitter thread on the best way to keep yourself safe. Excellent work by @WeimanKow (most relevant slides only)
The 2020 calendar by @YashodaHospital is spectacular as a guide for healthier living. I'm pasting it at in this thread starting from January. Retweeting this could inspire someone and save their life
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been arrested over the LNG deal. In this thread I will put forth all facts I know related to LNG deal so you understand this issue in its full context and understand what this man achieved and what it meant for the country (Warning: Very long thread)
Progressive ideas in Pakistan never reach fruition owing to mishandling or corruption. Creating an LNG ecosystem to get desperately needed gas for Pakistan’s economic prosperity was destined to be consigned to the same dustbin of failure; until SKA got involved.
The LNG terminal in question is notable as Pakistan’s first infrastructure success in LNG despite a decade of unsuccessful attempts to import LNG. It was Pakistan’s first and only source of LNG when it launched. This decade of stasis started in 2006 ...
