We recently learned that Mitch McConnell and a Koch strategist are deeply, existentially worried about a winning message for Dems:

“HR-1 stops billionaires from buying elections.”

This👇is McConnell flipping the script - to position *himself* as the one standing up to them.

We learned about this GOP weakness nearly a week ago.

As soon as I saw @JaneMayerNYer’s report, I tweeted the below - saying that Dems need to stop reacting, and take advantage of this weakness ASAP.

They haven’t, and now they have given McConnell a chance to use it instead.

Every day that passes without Dems capitalizing on this clear advantage, is another day that they allow shrewd liars in the GOP to muddy and confuse the issue, and make it less effective as a tool in the information space.

Dems can still capitalize on this; they need to do it

We can't understand our current moment - and cannot move forward in harmony - without understanding the social dynamic of authoritarian tendencies.

Dr. Stenner's work is a big part of what informs my understanding of our political environment, and it informs threads that I have written like the one below.

These are natural human tendencies across all groups of people - and they can be 'triggered.'

Another very important body of work is The Righteous Mind by @JonHaidt.

This shows how emotional messaging is used to interact with our political "moral foundations," and teaches us why specific language is *effective* at pushing those triggers.

Now that Chuck Todd is pushing the “border crisis” narrative too, do you think Biden has someone looking into the accuracy of that CNN video report about migrants paddling across the river, and whether CBP members were involved in coordinating it?

I would be.

Last week, right before a photo op at the border, AZ Governor Steve Ducey claimed that his ‘border strike force’ had made major busts.

Turns out, those were actually made by AZ state troopers - and one of them had happened over a year ago.

The last three words in this tweet are the difference between whether you have a chance to win a supporter to your cause, or you just go viral on Twitter with the people who already agree with you.

At some point we have to realize Twitter doesn’t represent the electorate.
I’m definitely going to lose followers for saying this.

But, as someone who grew up in a deep red area, I can tell you that there are people who might have listened to this message, up until the loaded phrase “white, patriarchal supremacy.”

And those people aren’t our enemies.
I have spent as much time as anyone calling out radicalizing right wing narratives - but it’s important to realize that the GOP’s future relies on maintaining around 30% of the public’s support.

Part of that strategy is being combatted by Biden and the Dems, from the top:

Focus on the Family was founded in the 70s by James Dobson, and has planted the seeds for some of the “faith-based” sedition movements that we are dealing with today.

They frame government social programs as “usurping” god’s role in society.

In 2005, Wayne Carriker was sentenced to two years in prison for having unprotected sex without informing his partner that he had HIV.
