Switched reluctance motors have existed almost as long as the internal combustion engine, but have suffered from weaknesses in performance which have limited their use in electric vehicles

Unlike common DC motor types, in a switched reluctance motor power is delivered to windings in the stator rather than the rotor

This simplifies mechanical design because power does not have to be delivered to a moving part
The rotor is made of a “soft” magnetic material such as laminated steel, with projecting magnetic poles

The stator also has a number of poles

When power is applied to the stator windings, the rotor moves to align the rotor pole with the nearest stator pole

Why do people invest in Bonds and Bond Funds ?

It seems to be a very strange thing to do

And yet a lot of money goes into them

1. Traditional Bond Mutual Funds

Cash In : $4.3 trillion

Net Assets = $5.1 trillion

Capital Gains = +$0.7 trillion
Now let's take a closer look :

Capital Gains have essentially been unchanged since 2010

So the holders may have made enough on their interest income to offset inflation during the last decade

- like a couple of percentage points if they were lucky
But they have really made no money

And why should they have done ?

And yet they seem to like storing more and more Cash in these funds

- presumably helping fund this issuance of Government paper

But don't overestimate the returns on the stock

AAPL is no longer a high-growth stock

- organic growth is only around +7% per annum

- and it relies upon Stock Buybacks and Dividends for investor returns

Motional is the Aptiv-Hyundai $4 billion joint venture aimed at commercializing driverless cars

They announced a partnership with Lyft in December 2020 as the ride-hailing company’s primary involvement in Motional’s plans
