3 of my priorty bills passed Senate today w/ broad bipartisan margins. Two of these bills help Oregonians access affordable prescription drugs. One makes important clarifications about the rights of disabled Oregonians. #orpol
SB 558 was introduced because of my constituent Sean. He has private insurance, but Oregon Health Plan is his secondary insruance. His Rx costs are high & his primary insurance required he fill his rx at a mail in pharmacy that didn't accept OHP. #orpol
OHP doesn't reimburse for direct pay. Sean had to spend his full monthly income on Rx costs that should have been covered or go without the meds. SB 558 fixes this by prohibiting carrier from requiring rx be filled at pharm w/o a contract w OHP for those w dual coverage. #orpol
SB 560 also helps with rx costs. Some ins comps wouldn't let patients count financial help from 3rd parties towards copay &deductible. For those w chronic disease& specialty meds, it put tx out of reach. Insurance companies were pocketing funds intended to help patients.#orpol
SB 560 protects these patient assistance programs, and requires insurance companies to allow these resources paid on behalf of the patient to count towards out of pocket costs. Great work to the chronic disease coalition for bringing this issue to our attention! #orpol
Finally, SB 566 recognizes that the law assumes capacity in all people, including those with ID/DD. Current law says those who are "mentally defective" are not legally able to consent to sexual contact (including kissing). This is offensive and paternalistic. #orpol
SB 566 removes offending words from law & bases capacity to consent on individual assess rather than dx or disability. This affirms freedom of those w ID/DD to enjoy consensual loving relationships w/out fear of arrest or prosecution. Such a basic right.Thx @DisabilityRtsOR #orpol

University Boards of Trustees have gotten a lot of attention lately given the debacle w/ @OregonState former President F King Alexander, concerns regarding a discrimination lawsuit against the acting president & dismissive treatment of survivors at BOT meeting. #orpol #Beavers
This Board is composed of good people who have made some missteps. Recently, the @OregonState Faculty Senate cast a vote of no confidence and the majority of that Faculty Senate called for the resignation of Board members. #orpol #Beavers
This has led to multiple inquiries to my office about how the BOT is appointed, and what accountability levers exist. BOT is appointed by the Governor& serves at her pleasure. Before appointment, nominees are sent to the Oregon State Senate for vetting and confirmation. #orpol

The for profit industry that warehouses vulnerable kids for cash stretches to the other side of the Atlantic. Oregon is not alone. These kids need help now. seekingalpha.com/article/426699… #orpol
BBC footage documenting dehumanizing abuse at for-profits may be shocking, but not unusual. Thousands of US kids, including from OR, are in these places. They face same type of ridicule, abuse, & humiliation. They have fractured bones, stapled heads & broken spirits to prove it
All of this is done for profit as regulators and policy makers in multiple states and countries look the other way.
