This was 16 year old #PaytonHam
An honor High school student. He was killed on Tuesday by a Maryland state trooper. A thread 🧵
According to police, an un identified male caller reported Payton because he was “acting suspicious” and had a gun.
When police showed up, they claim Payton was in a “shooting stance” and pointed a gun at them. They then shot him.
Then they claim that Payton pulled out a 2/x
Knife, and tried to stand up, so they shot him again.
Payton passed away shortly thereafter.
Police gave media actual photo evidence of the knife they claim Payton used (shown here) 3/x
Put they are only giving media a “catalog photo of a replica” of the gun used by Payton. 4/x
Here is my catalog photo of air soft guns. As you can see, air soft guns are distinguishable by the bright Orange tip they have. Can the tip be removed? Of course! But was Payton’s gun altered? We may never know. 5/x
You can be 16, white, in a middle class neighborhood playing with your toy and still be shot by “scared” police.
We don’t have a race problem in America. We have an over policing problem.
There is no reason the police needed to deliver fatal shots to this boy #EnoughIsEnough

My sons have air soft guns. They play with them frequently. They are not “asking for trouble” they are children with a toy.
I’m not surprised some police can’t tell the difference between an air soft gun and a gun. They can’t tell the difference between a taser and a gun either.
A young man in his driveway playing with an air soft gun was shot by police at least twice and killed.
You mean the police can’t see the bright Orange tip of the gun? And why did they release the actual photo of the knife, but a stock photo of a “similar gun.”
