By restructuring this way it is thought that Gupta’s companies were able to access £billions in Covid loans via Greensill

The Gov refuses to put precise sums on it citing confidentiality.

Sorry.

It is taxpayer money and I think we are entitled to know how much they risked
Wasn’t Gupta/ Liberty steel lent £millions previously in the Liberty Steel “save”?

Liberty owns 12 steel plants in the UK including in Rotherham, Motherwell, Stocksbridge, Newport and Hartlepool and provides over 5k jobs within the business, many high paying skilled jobs.
These are often in areas where they are otherwise in short supply, commanding a wage more than 25% above the national average.
According to the BBC, for every one person directly employed (there are more than 30,000 in total), the industry supports two more livelihoods across the supply chain, plus more jobs in the local economy.
“Crucially, though, steel is seen as a strategic industry. It's integral to our national security & well-being, used in aircraft carriers, railways & hospitals.
Relying heavily on others such as China to provide runs the risk of supply disruption, particularly if relations sour.”
Extraordinary to think that the ex commander of the Met Police, Hogan-Howe was a paid adviser to Greensill at the same time as working at the heart of Whitehall, including on NHS data related projects.
H/T @k8tshires for this: Even more extraordinary when one considers this story was from July 2019 referring to false statements made by Greensill in 2018.
“Financing group Greensill Capital, which is backed by Japan’s SoftBank Group and General Atlantic of the U.S., last year provided a false statement to market participants relating to bonds it had issued in 2017 on behalf of commodities tycoon Sanjeev Gupta.”
Greensill initially denied producing pre-sale documents relating to the Kinlochleven bonds or any updates regarding a guarantee. The company more recently confirmed it had produced the April 2017 pre-sale document and the May 2018 investor update

reuters.com/article/uk-gre…
It absolved itself of responsibility by saying the update “was based upon information provided by GFG.”
Per @k8tshires “It's a Ponzi scheme.
The prospect of gov support had been a key reason Swiss asset manager GAM Holding AG purchasing the 220 million pounds of bonds a year earlier, because under the terms of the bonds it potentially meant a near-term repurchase at a higher price”
HOW did our Gov keep giving it the power to release Gov backed loans in 2020?

When was Hogan-Howe an advisor to the company?

How reassuring is it that an ex Met Police Commissioner is a paid advisor to a company?
This, from the Times, suggest the totality of the COVID loans to Gupta’s companies via Greensill was £400 mill. 5 times the normal amount and coming with an 80% Gov guarantee.

India looked like it had beaten Covid, but cases are now skyrocketing. What changed?

“Loved ones wailing outside hospitals, ambulances queued up with patients, crematoria and graveyards drowning in dead bodies, failed resuscitations” independent.co.uk/asia/india/cov…
Families scrambling for beds, plasma, and even basic medical supplies such as oxygen, stretchers and ventilators: these are common scenes witnessed across India.

Families Sending out pleas on Twitter for oxygen, drugs, beds.

What changed from just three months ago? Image
Maharashtra was painted as an outlier a few weeks ago.

Now hospitals out of capacity. Reports of doctors not even able to find beds for their own.

No longer. It is worse now than at any point last year.

What has changed? Image

Covid-19 appears to have jumped between neighbouring rooms in hotel quarantine in Sydney after seven cases of people arriving from different countries were revealed to have the same viral sequence.

Can Governments and @WHO stop being dicks. It’s airborne theguardian.com/world/2021/apr…
No. I’m not saying it is EXCLUSIVELY airborne.

Just that the accumulating evidence is that it is STRONGLY airborne.

And when so called academics seek to say otherwise please pause before you reply to this.
Because pretending the preponderance of evidence suggests otherwise is also dickheaded.

I really listened hard to the spiel back in March/ April/ May 2020.

On the whole believed the fomite/ droplet stuff.

But played safe, wore a mask but wondered if I WAS BEING a the dickhead.

Jerome Powell is reminded of the country's slow economic recovery with a growing homeless encampment outside of the Federal Reserve - The Washington Post washingtonpost.com/business/2021/…
Powell doesn’t know their names or backstories, either. But what he saw was clear. A visceral reminder of the uneven economic recovery. Right there in the Fed’s shadow.

Somehow comforting that someone so powerful is concerned about you.

But who are the “you”? Image
“They need to be in the room with us as we make decisions”

That is quite a thought.

But there are no rooms at what advocates claim 21st and E.

In fact many of the people seeking shelter here have more elemental concerns. Image

The 1st Kyle knew was when he got a text from his mate a couple of days before Easter telling him there were to be riots on the Saturday night. There was a list of places and times & Kyle, who is 17, understood that it had been circulated by paramilitaries irishtimes.com/life-and-style…
“I don’t even like the paramilitaries. When I was younger a boy that was in a UDA family hated me and he used to bully me. He threw eggs at old people’s houses and blamed me. They threatened to do my knees. I told my da and he went and threatened them back. He doesn’t like them” Image
“They put him out of his house one time because he beat a guy that threatened to shoot him. It was over someone else that owed them money
That’s when we moved to where we live now”

Yet he went
He doesn’t know why he got involved.

It’s the people (& politicians) stirring them up Image

The superspreader events that governments let happen - Macleans.ca

“Canada’s largest superspreader events were in workplaces vulnerable to swift infection spread and where workers had little power to keep themselves completely safe.”

When BC’s provincial medical officergave the green light for skiers to hit Whistler’s slopes last Feb. 5, the resort town was already dealing with a lot of COVID-19 cases. 12,000 permanent residents & many seasonal staff, Whistler had had 547 infections the month previous,
That amounts to a rate of 2,193 cases per 100,000 people.

Quite QUITE extraordinary that a Chief Medical Officer would then given the green light to the season.

WTF is wrong with these people?

So MORE people travelled in.

Now it is riddled with P1 infection clusters Image

Ex-PM adviser to firm based in ‘worst tax haven’

Cameron, hired in May 2019 to help provide “global counsel on critical issues”, has previously described such legal tax reduction strategies as “frankly morally wrong” and “not fair on hardworking people”
thetimes.co.uk/article/ex-pm-…
Afiniti, which says it sells software for call centres to clients that include the AA and Axa, was founded in 2005 in the US by Zia Chishti.

The company has been domiciled in British Overseas Territory, Bermuda, described “the world’s worst corporate tax haven”, since 2011. Image
By being domiciled there the value of their intellectual property and “capital surplus” is held in the Bermuda company thus reducing tax liability in the U.K. (amongst other countries). Image
