Me and my wife visited a Mahadev Temple close to where we are staying in Kochi. We both had the traditional tilak , ash and chandan on our forehead that is given by the pujari at the temple. My wife on the way back told me that she wanted to.pick up few essentials 1/n
For the house we are staying like small utensils etc and wanted to go to a supermarket .I said we should stop by a small kirana store so that ppl like us can lend a helping hand to the local store during these difficult times .After driving around a bit ,we stopped at a small 2/n
Store that we saw. The owner(50s) of the store was busy setting up his store. Me and my wife wore the traditional temple attire of veshti and mundu. As we walked towards the shop he stared at us as if he is seeing some extra terrestrial creatures walking up to his shop . 3/n
It looked as if he did not enjoy us walking into his store at all . To put it very simply , both me and my wife could feel the heat of his state and hate . We kept wondering why is this hate . What did we do wrong. ? We asked for the stuff we were looking for and he quickly 4/n
Realized that we might spent a sizable amount in his store and seemed to time down or rather managed to hide his hateful stare a bit . Both me and my wife exchanged few glances at each other in wonder . I kept wondering why ? Why ?5/n
After all I house stopped by the near by reliance store and picked up our stuff and I expected a trouble from my wife for having forced her into this situation . I displayed no animosity , hurriedly paid the bill and on the way out wished him to have a nice day. But the stare 6/n
Was back on his face . That's when I noticed that he had his veshti the other way opposite to the way I had and basically did not like two kafirs walking into his store early morning probably ,specially openly displaying our religious identity. But why this hate ? 7/n
Who is responsible.? We both discussed the matter as we drove away. There was no other reason than that for that shop owner to respond to us the way he did. I just made up my mind that I will display my religious identity much more openly henceforth. Keep wondering who is 8/n
Dividing the society? This nation belongs as much to me as much as everyone else. If you have the right to live the way you want. So do I... Submitted for the liberals of this country from a concerned citizen at the developing society that we are creating... God bless us all ..

Had a very interesting conversation with a senior from a different service to mine . He almost admonished me for being vocal on SM and at times rude ! He is around here on Twitter and this is for him ! Sirji , left fauj years back due to some circumstances. Would gladly rejoin1/n

By no rules from speaking my mind other than societal norms of decency and respect ! Which I have been maintaining with great care . I might have overstepped on a couple of occasions and at times have regretted saying things which I would rather not !But when it comes to what 3/n

Indian Parliament was attacked by gunmen in December 2001 .. The pak sponsored terror angle was deeply being investigated and the government of the day warned the armed forces to be ready for any eventuality . 1/n
This was the period when my release from service had come through and I was getting ready for civilian life , with no idea where to go and what to do . I was in Sena bhavan trying to register with DGR for jobs having done a course in industrial security . 2/n
I was within 2 kms of parliament when it was attacked and still remember the news being played out on the radio of the shop where I stopped to grab a sandwich after all the running around , which many ex servicemen will easily relate to 3/n

The flying was heavy as all the ballot boxes were being transported by helicopters .We were operating a single Mi8 detachment at Imphal . Night parking was at the Manipur University Helipad. We started our day at 0700h and had been flying for 7hours. 1/n
It was 5 pm. Exhausted after a heavy days flying I was ready to retire to our rooms. As I was shutting down the helicopter , I saw a BSF Jeep pull alongside the Helipad with a commandant rank officer jump out. The urgency in his moves told me something was not right . 2/n
As the helicopter was being shutdown by the flight engineer , I asked the co pilot to take controls and walked out towards the BSF officer .The helicopter blades were still turning. The officer told me that a BSF party has been ambushed near likhai and they have 7 injured 3/n

I had to leave the IAF to take care of my sick father as my mom passed away at a young age .It was indeed painful to break a love affair of 12 long years to give priority to the one person for whom I did it all . The cancer was painful and eventually he passed on to the next 1/n
