VW has an EV market share of 3-4% in 🇨🇳 China and plans to sell 100k electric vehicles this year
VW China Head Wöllenstein, "It will take us two to three years to overtake Tesla"
He confirmed that VW has bought CO2 certificates from Tesla
When asked that VW supports a competitor with CO2 certificates he declined that and said "
"After all, the trade was intentional in the first place"
Stefan Wöllenstein, Head of VW China
'In 2-3 years, the core brand wants to have a similarly high market share in alternative drives on the world's largest car market as it has today for gasoline-powered cars, with just under 15 %.'
While I don’t have doubts that VW will increase its sales in BEVs & PHEVs in China it's an unrealistic target to grow with their mediocre BEVs in a market with many good local BEV manufacturers including the main competitor Tesla into the size of their ICE business

Wöllensteing Head of VW China when asked about the Uighurs genocide and their plant in Xinjiang
"We have made it clear that we must stand by our commitment to China as a whole, and we will stand by our commitment to Xinjiang as long as we believe it is economically feasible"
🤨
VWs Wöllenstein continued about Xinjiang
"A topic like forced labor, which is critically discussed, cannot exist at our company because we employ employees directly"
"The fact that it will also be critical of us at some point is certainly something we can't dismiss out of hand"
Unfortunately, VW has a long history of forced labor that started with the German concentration camps and continued with human rights violations in the 60s and 70s e.g. Argentina and other places of the world.
