Thread.
I was a Kenyan police officer for a period of 3 years(btn 2004-2008). I'm now a Journalist, with over 10 years experience. So I understand both how the world of police and media works. #puritymwambia did an excellent piece on #gunsgalore, top notch Journalism. Yes there..
..minimal gaps like giving police service a right of reply but as is, the story is still complete. #puritymwambia deserves some accolades.
On taking one year to complete the story, yes investigative pieces, even by cops, take long and tedious hours to achieve the expected end...
I've seen some saying if it took 1 year to shoot #gunsgalore
then it's not easy to get a gun, I beg to differ. You're forgetting that, if indeed one can get it, it's dangerous already. Again, once you establish trust, you can get the gun on a daily basis, which is v. dangerous!
Again, I would so wish anyone to understand how investigations are like; they are hard, draining and dangerous. You never know who will snitch on you even as a journalist. The fact that you called, you can be traced and you end up putting your family at risk. #puritymwambia should
..be protected and should go underground until the situation cools down. Right now gangsters or the rogue elements could be tracing #puritymwambia s movements. But take courage in this: @MohaJichoPevu and @johnallannamu are still alive and well, we pray for u..now onto police...
Just like the new #SuperLeaque
where greed is informing the formation of it, even in the #kenyanpoliceservice kuna majangili who are led by greed.
It's an open secret that some few rogue cops do indeed lease out their weapons esp at night, #puritymwambia
was just confirming.
We have very dignified service men and women who do everything possible to protect Kenyans. These officers will do anything possible to make sure you're safe. They will take a bullet for you and they have done that since the force was formed. These few individuals have...
..unfortunately are capable of bringing the whole service into bad light and the little that's being done to dignify the service, end up in trash cans. However we must believe, I know this with certainty, that a majority of our cops are for our good. I know you'll say that they..
..corrupt, anyway we have seen the rankings over the years, I have bad news for you; Kenyans are so corrupt.Saw it first hand as a KE cop. You arrest someone and the first thing they want is a short way out. Given the chance, 85% of Kenyans would bribe their way out of ANY crime.
That said, we must know that we have criminal elements within the service and the government, I know they know, needs to uproot all these bad guys. #journalists also need to give the cops a right of reply. We cannot tell the whole country that all our cops are rogue, no.
We must also start thinking of our police officers as assets. I'm reminded of my Kiganjo days. We were taught that, a major guarantee to owning a gun as a raia, is a proof that you have something precious to protect. We cannot give our cops weapons of war and pay them peanuts!
Police officers in Kenya live in abject poverty. Their lives are perfect examples of misery. Every evening they have nothing good to look forward to. @FredMatiangi and @IG_NPS must start thinking hard on how to improve their welfare. It's no-brainer..cops need better renumeration
We have to make them a priority. We have to give them good medical cover, good houses, sanitation, compensation etc, until then, we will always have a disgruntled police service that has no motivation. And if one has no calling to be a cop, this job will be so difficult they'll..
Always be such rogue elements within the service.

I would suggest that a constable should never take home anything less than 50,000 shillings as a minimum without allowances.

If you can give them a gun that can kill, protect their hearts from thoughts of stealing.

Baraka.
I realized some tweets didn't upload and so there are gaps in the thread. My apologies. I hope though, you got where I was coming from and my intentions. Pray for your land. Systemic corruption will annihilate us.
