Heard from a friend close to those in power that like DeMon, this timing too was tied to Modi's lifelong US obsession. He timed DeMon with 2016 elections. He timed this with the day Biden announced (weeks ago) all US adults qualify.
Difference is, Modi has left it to the people.
Biden has been thorough, cautious, has never promised too much, and always delivered more than promised, ahead of schedule. He does it built on 50 years of experience and empathy. And preparation that ensures it will happen.

Modi OTOH is like, okay y'all, go get vaccinated 😊!
Just to give you proper context.

Today, April 19, is the day that Pres. Biden has made all US adults eligible for the covid vaccine, even with the J&J issues. Today, when 50% US adults have already received at least one shot. And the US is littered with vaccination sites. Today.
India though is at not even 10% vaccinated, vaccine shortages everywhere, a second surge in full force, oxygen shortage, healthcare at capacity etc.

But Modi is so obsessed with US, he decides to just announce, all adults eligible May 1st. How? Be atmanirbhar, figure it out!
Btw, in the US, all vaccines are free for everyone. Just making sure everyone who reads this knows it. Cos I heard some #MalviyaMavalis are spreading lies saying "even US charges money for vaccines, why shouldn't BJP?"

Would not have seen this under Trump. He would have used to vaccine to imprison or gouge more people.
A whatsapp forward is still the Prime Minister of India so obviously his vaccination strategy is to just whatsapp everyone to go get vaccinated.
Seriously getting pissed off at all these "just read hayek and nozick and rothbard and the state is always evil" Indian elites who can't tell their ass from an equation.

Reminds me of the outrage in US conservative circles about Guantanamo detainees getting "universal healthcare at taxpayer dime". When we incarcerate people, everything, by definition, is on taxpayer dime. Even vaccines. They're not getting anything at the cost of your parents.
If you really think that prisoners anywhere, especially in India, are getting preferential treatment, then absolutely, by all means, have your mummy and daddy start a life of crime and test that hypothesis.
No democracy is as harsh on prisoners as India is. Even the US, a champion of jailing and harassing people, doesn't come close.

Because it's a government run by a bunch of iit/iim/ias bros who were beguiled by american conservative blogs early (I was once one of them) and think that the mythical "market" is the answer to everything. While the American holy cows themselves get free socialized mRNA vax.
If you still think that "less government" is the answer to healthcare problems... Not just "involve more private players with aligned incentives'... That is cool... But if you're still "less government" after all this, you really need to introspect.

Not only is the vaccine free in the US, it is free regardless of immigration or health insurance status. So even undocumented immigrants can get it (I know a few in NYC who have) free. And tourists! I know some ₹₹₹ Dallyvich folks who flew to the US just for the vaccine! Image

I believe the best education is non-profit education. I'm not saying for-profit education shouldn't exist. I'm just saying it's not going to be the best education.
With that in mind, I'm very wary of the quality of education entities & brands who sponsor pro sports teams.
The moment I saw the name byju's on the indian team's jersey, I knew I was never ever going to work with that company in any way even for research or anything. If you are sponsoring the indian team, you're a business. Good for you. But not my game.
Similarly, every time I see the Unacademy logo during this IPL, I'm like, okay, not gonna touch this with a ten foot pole. And tell people who ask to stay away.
Online education is the new get-rich-quick scheme, eh?
