No Mecklenburg County long term care residents have died of COVID-19 since February #MeckBOCC
Charlotte hospitals are not seeing increases in patients in the ICU due to COVID
Keep in mind when the county says only ~34% have received at least one shot, that is out of the total Meck County population, not the eligible population. People under 16 are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine right now
NCDOT is going to fence off an area near the Music Factory where an encampment currently sits. This was NCDOT’s call, not Meck County. There is shelter space available but it is important to note not everyone is able to stay in a shelter due to safety and health concerns
The 65-70% estimated vaccinated level needed for herd immunity is based on total population but Health Director Gibbie Harris says she expects Governor Roy Cooper will set goals based off eligible population #MeckBOCC
There will be “heightened radar” at the vax events at bars and breweries to make sure someone is consenting to the vaccine and isn’t just ripping 4 tequila shots, stumbling off the dance floor and spilling a White Claw all over everyone and finding their way into the vaccine tent
Press conference is over 💫

Thread: I spoke to Gibbie Harris today about Mecklenburg County's vaccination rate. Mecklenburg County is lagging behind several neighboring counties right now.
Here is a look at the data, per NCDHHS

Full vaccinations:
Meck- 10.5%
Union- 11.1%
Gaston- 11.6%
Lincoln- 12.2%
Iredell- 12.3%

Wake- 13.7%

Partial:
Meck- 16.8%
Union- 16.6%
Gaston- 17.4%
Lincoln- 18.3%
Iredell- 17.5%

Wake- 22.5%
Yet vaccine demand is still incredibly high in Mecklenburg County. As you can tell from my tweets, open appointments in Charlotte go within minutes, not hours. Like last week when 650 shots in less than 5 minutes.
