As we investigate threats to democracy across the country, we’re still working to uncover the misconduct of the last administration. “Losing an election is not actually accountability for some” of Donald Trump’s conduct, our @AREvers told @thehill. thehill.com/homenews/admin…
“And our philosophy is that if we don't expose what happened and the way that administration hurt people and violated laws and norms then they will transform that lack of accountability into impunity, and others will copy what they did,” Evers said.
Accountability is still possible and important, and our investigations will help bring key information to light. Trump is facing criminal and civil liability for his misconduct around the insurrection and actions around the election.
Other former appointees are fanning out around the country working at companies and biding their time before they can join the government. They would like nothing more than for evidence to never come out about what they did. We plan to find it.

An investigation by the GAO found that efforts to return hundreds of Americans to the U.S. at the beginning of the pandemic created chaos and put Americans at risk, reports @ddiamond from the @washingtonpost. washingtonpost.com/health/2021/04…
We’ve separately been investigating the government response to the pandemic, and records we obtained via #FOIA also demonstrate the chaos and confusion the missions created in the federal government.
On January 30, 2020, former Assistant Secretary of Defense Ken Rapuano wrote to Assist. Sec. For Preparedness and Response Bob Kadlec: I'm receiving multiple feeds and they're not all consistent,” in reference to meetings on the coronavirus response. americanoversight.org/document/hhs-c…
Yesterday, we sued the Department of Justice for records related to Donald Trump’s reported attempts to pressure DOJ to support his and his allies’ efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. americanoversight.org/american-overs…
The lawsuit seeks the release of documents linked to the plan to fire acting Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen in January and replace him with a Trump loyalist to help keep Trump in power.
On December 15, Trump summoned then-Deputy AG Jeffrey Rosen to the Oval Office and urged Rosen to appoint special counsels to investigate unfounded claims of election fraud, and for DOJ to support lawsuits seeking to overturn the election. Rosen refused. nytimes.com/2021/01/22/us/…
New Lawsuit: After the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump and his allies spread “the big lie” of widespread voter fraud and attempted to overturn the results.
Among other records, our new FOIA lawsuit seeks the release of documents linked to the plan to fire acting Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen in January and replace him with a Trump loyalist who could help support efforts to keep Trump in power.

The Trump administration's DHS inspector general blocked an investigation into the Secret Service’s handling of protests for racial justice at Lafayette Square and the spread of Covid-19 in its ranks, reports the @washingtonpost. washingtonpost.com/politics/secre…
We’ve been investigating the outbreaks of Covid-19 among Secret Service officers under the Trump administration and the response to nationwide protests for social justice last summer.
Last summer, the Secret Service told us that it had no records reflecting assessments of how President Trump’s travel impacted the safety of its agents, even as reporting indicated that multiple agents had contracted Covid-19 in the previous months. americanoversight.org/the-secret-ser…
The State Department’s inspector general found that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo violated federal ethics rules covering the use of taxpayer money. He and his wife, Susan Pompeo, asked State employees to carry out personal tasks over 100 times. politico.com/news/2021/04/1…
Last July, we obtained a State Department whistleblower complaint revealing an ongoing inquiry into “questionable activities” of former Secretary Mike Pompeo. Both the State Dept. & CIA are withholding records related to their IGs investigating complaints about Pompeo’s conduct.
Steve Linick, then the State Department inspector general, was fired in May 2020. Our FOIA lawsuit uncovered emails from State suggesting that the firing was directly tied to a request from Pompeo. americanoversight.org/document/state…
New: Records we obtained via #FOIA from the U.S. Marshals Service shed new light on the special deputation of law enforcement officers across the country as part of the Trump administration’s controversial Operation Legend program. americanoversight.org/records-reveal…
The records we obtained contain internal communications that reflect that Operation Legend —criticized as a politicized attempt to bolster Donald Trump’s “law and order” campaign message — was an "extension" of an existing Justice Department program.
They also contain more than 250 forms related to the deputation of federal and local law enforcement officers, most of which appear to be completed and signed.
