If they tweet on the situation, they acknowledge the crisis. If they acknowledge the crisis, they acknowledge the government’s failure. If they acknowledge the government’s failure, they think they'll get into trouble. Therefore, #IndiaTogether, in deafening silence. #IPL2021
There are exceptions. Ashwin, Jaffer, Harbhajan. I hope there will be more in days to come. The problem is not the IPL. It's just the lack of acknowledgment.
I don't blame the IPL. If anything the tournament got lucky with everything being in place before things got alarmingly worse. And cancelling it does nothing. Just acknowledge & empathise with the people. They're people. Not just a target audience.
When Sky covered the West Indies-England Test in the aftermath of George Floyd & BLM, Michael Holding & Ebony Rainford-Brent spoke about racism. Not because it was related to the Test match, but because it was the conscientious & responsible thing to do.
Sport is a platform. One that reaches people. If the people are suffering, or in pain, reach out to them. Show them you care. Show the people of India that the sport & its icons care about them. Of course you can do more, but this is the very least.

Thread: I’d like to bring this out for any fans of the @premierleague who travel to the UK to watch their favourite teams LIVE. I’m set to take my first trip to the UK, essentially to watch @Arsenal in action. They’ve got 2 big games vs Liverpool & Spurs back to back. 1/6
As tickets on the club sites were sold out almost immediately, I had to reach out to a third party online ticket site. @LiveFootballTix was one of the first to pop up on my search. They even add a 'reliable, secure' to their name. They charged me £256.50 per ticket! 2/6
At the time, I had no idea PL tickets were this expensive, but I assumed these are premium fixtures, also in a rush to secure tickets, I didn't bother checking with friends if this was exorbitant or not. I assumed at best, there's a significant, but yet nominal service charge 3/6
Thread: For those of you wondering why I still feel for Hardik Pandya inspite of having absolutely no doubt that he deserves to be disciplined for his indiscretion, first & foremost do read Joy Gupta's well-tempered piece here: espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/257…
Here is a man who clearly lacks the sensibilities, and by his own admission, certainly the intellect to distinguish between what he considers cool machismo chat and outright misogynistic conduct. Yes he shoulder's most of the blame, and he should, but no one helped his cause..
Not his Board who hardly spend any time training these boys on media etiquette, or allow them the chance to get comfortable with media interviews with sports journos, and now seem to be shocked he showed up at KWK at all, apparently without permission..
