Thread – The Crew-1 astronauts are speaking from the International Space Station to reporters, ahead of SpaceX's Crew Dragon Resilience return to Earth, with splashdown targeting Wednesday at 12:40pm EDT (16:40 UTC).

Livestream here:
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini Hopkins, on advice for re-entry from Demo-2 astronauts Bob and Doug:

"All of us have been focusing over the last few days, preparing for that landing and just going over our procedures and making sure when we get into that sequence of events."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini Hopkins, on the @inspiration4x mission flying in Resilience later this year: "It's very exciting ... it's a good thing for human spaceflight to see more and more people getting up into orbit around Earth. It's just an amazing experience."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Hopkins: "We have not had a chance to interact with the Inspiration4 crew yet, but I think all of us would would love to have that opportunity and talk to them about what it's like inside Resilience going uphill and we'll be able to tell them ... about coming home as well."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Noguchi, on his most memorable experience while in space: "Two days ago, when the door opens and all our friends came into the space station ... We have a great camaraderie ... meeting people here is even greater compared to Earth."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Hopkins, on his favorite experience: "The port relocation that we did ... this is the first time from a U.S. side that we've done something like that ... things went really well and it was great to prove out that capability."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Hopkins adds that "sleeping in Resilience this entire mission ... has just been absolutely stunning."

Glover laughs: "Keep rubbing that awesome view in; none of us have windows in our rooms!"
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Glover: "One thing that did really profoundly impact me was the very first time, after Resilience was safely in orbit, I looked out the window and saw the Earth from 250 miles up."

"I will never forget that moment ... it wasn't about the view; it was how the view made me feel."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Walker's favorite part: "The crew camaraderie amongst our international partners, when we get to spend time with our colleagues who work in a different part of the station most the time ... It's just really nice to have this international brotherhood, sisterhood."
@Space_Station @NASA_Johnson @AstroVicGlover @Astro_illini @inspiration4x Glover, on the extended experience of weightlessness: "We talk a lot about how to describe flying and floating ... what I've started telling folks is it's like living your dreams about flying."
Walker: The NASA flight doctors are telling us that we'll get a COVID-19 vaccine 7 to 10 days "after we get back. I don't which version we'll be getting."
That's all for today's Crew-1 Q&A

News – The FCC approves SpaceX's third modification to its Starlink license, despite objections from companies including Amazon and Viasat, in a win for Elon Musk's growing satellite internet network: cnbc.com/2021/04/27/fcc…
The FCC found that SpaceX's proposed modification to Starlink "does not create significant interference problems:" docs.fcc.gov/public/attachm…

cnbc.com/2021/04/27/fcc… Image
@SpaceX @elonmusk @FCC The terms of the FCC's order (highlights mine), include that SpaceX issue a report twice a year that states the number of Starlink "conjunction events" (i.e., near misses with other satellites), as well as how many Starlinks were disposed of/re-entered.

JUST IN – Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin filed a GAO protest against NASA today, challenging the recent award of a nearly $3 billion contract to Elon Musk's SpaceX to build a crewed lunar lander under NASA's HLS program for Artemis missions: cnbc.com/2021/04/26/jef…
Blue Origin statement: "NASA has executed a flawed acquisition for the Human Landing System program and moved the goalposts at the last minute."

cnbc.com/2021/04/26/jef… Image
Blue Origin's protest is based on 5 objections:

a-No opportunity to compete
b-Flawed acquisition
c-Unreasonable NASA evaluation
d-Improperly evaluated SpaceX proposal
e-Changed weight in evaluation factors

Rocket Lab's next launch, its 20th to date and scheduled for May, will feature the second Electron splashdown recovery with a "beefed up" heat shield:

"This is really the next step in the iteration to make Electron reusable," @Peter_J_Beck told me. cnbc.com/2021/04/08/roc…
Beck said this is the second of three planned splashdown recoveries, with the company having "severely disassembled" the first Electron booster it recovered, which overall "was in remarkable shape." cnbc.com/2021/04/08/roc…
After three splashdown recoveries, Rocket Lab will then move to the final step of its reuse plan: Plucking the booster with its parachute from the sky with a helicopter. cnbc.com/2021/04/08/roc… $VACQ

Real estate entrepreneur Larry Connor is headed to space next year – but first, he will dive to the bottom of the ocean.

He aims to be the 1st to do both within a year, and just the 3rd in history after astronauts @AstroKDS & @RichardGarriott. cnbc.com/2021/04/07/rea…
EYOS Expeditions reached out to Connor shortly after his spaceflight plans were announced, asking if he would help cover part of the costs of an upcoming dive in the Triton Submarines' DSV Limiting Factor – and in return, join as a co-pilot.

@EYOSExpeditions @tritonsubs @LuxuryTCG Next Monday he will travel to Guam, with the first dive to Challenger Deep on either Wednesday or Thursday.

A few days later Connor will dive again, to the Sirena Deep – “where there’s only ever been two humans there before."
