13.5 million new India #COVID19 cases per day? New model by @IHME_UW says so despite only 233k official confirmed daily cases—implies a 58x underdiagnosis in India 🇮🇳. @IHME_UW models also project deaths will continue to rise until mid May—and likely 1 mil deaths by August. 🧵
2) This model is real—@IHME_UW is a famous epidemiology institute in @UW. Their modeling head Dr @AliHMokdad thinks there are 14 million a day now. But hopefully to decline soon.
3) let this sink in - 1,000,000 deaths or more in India 🇮🇳 by August 2021. And this is base on conservative modeling.

Crackdown—Police in Uttar Pradesh filed a criminal case on a man who used Twitter to appeal for oxygen cylinder for his grandfather, for allegedly circulating a rumor with the intent to cause fear or alarm. UP chief minister launched crackdown this week.🧵

2) The police claimed that the man was “spreading misleading information”. Sub-inspector Virendra Singh of the Ramganj police station claimed that Yadav provided false information on oxygen supply and the coronavirus to target the Uttar Pradesh government.

Heart-wrenching—A mother in her 50s dies of #COVID19 after she had low oxygen. But there’s no ambulance, so her dead body is carried by motorbike—by her son & son-in-law, her corpse wedged in-between her sons, ferrying her home. Heart-breaking for India 🇮🇳.

The shocking incident took place in Kasibugga town in Srikakulam district on Monday.
