LeVar Burton says get those weak complaints about 'cancel culture' outta here, people. In a recent interview on 'The View,' the actor was asked about his thoughts on the supposed trend, which he called a 'misnomer.'
'I think we have a consequence culture,' Burton expanded, 'and that consequences are finally encompassing everybody in this society, whereas they haven’t been ever in this country.'
He continued, 'And I think it has everything to do with a new awareness by people who were simply unaware of the real nature of life in this country for people who have been othered since this nation began.'
During his 'View' pitstop, the 64-year-old also discussed the recent announcement that he would serve as a guest host of 'Jeopardy!' after an online movement from fans of the show.
Burton says he is 'absolutely' trying out for the position full time, saying, 'I am eager to put my skills up against those of anyone else in contention and then let the chips fall where they may.'

Liz Cheney thinks Republican lawmakers like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, who ‘led the charge’ in objecting to the certification of Pres. Biden’s 2020 election win, is enough to disqualify them from running for president.
Cheney, who is the #3 Republican leader in the House, told the New York Post she believes those senators’ support of Trump & his followers' attempt to overturn the elections was ‘unconstitutional.’
Both Cruz and Hawley are widely speculated to be eyeing potential presidential runs in 2024. Cheney herself has not ruled out a presidential bid, either, but...
The FBI has announced it is launching a civil rights investigation into the death of Andrew Brown Jr. The 42-year-old man was shot by police officers last Wednesday at his home in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, while they were following search and arrest warrants.
An independent autopsy of Brown found that he was shot five times, four times in his right arm and once in the back of his head.
Brown’s family was originally shown just 20 seconds of the officers’ bodycam footage, which civil rights attorney Ben Crump says gives the family zero ‘transparency.’
Mask guidelines have relaxed for fully vaccinated Americans. The CDC has announced that masks or face coverings are no longer necessary for Americans who are fully vaccinated while running outside, sitting with a small group, or spending time with members of their own household.
Masks are still recommended for people in large groups or indoor settings where the vaccination status of those around them is unknown.
While making the announcement in a briefing earlier today, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said she hopes this new guidance will help Americans ‘take personal responsibility to protect themselves and protect others.’
Pres. Joe Biden is issuing an executive order to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers to $15 an hour—a 37% increase from the previous $10.95 hourly rate.
The order also directs agencies to raise the tipped minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024, with the aim of getting tipped workers on the same pay level as non-tipped federal workers. The new minimum wage is expected to go into effect next year.
In a statement, the White House said the order will ‘promote economy and efficiency in federal contracting, providing value for taxpayers by enhancing worker productivity and generating higher-quality work by boosting workers’ health, morale, and effort.’
A damning new report from Human Rights Watch asserts that Israeli policies regarding its treatment of Palestinians constitute apartheid
The April 27 report, which totals 200+ pages, was compiled after studying years of human rights documentation, case studies, a review of Israeli government planning documents, statements by officials, and other sources, according to HRW.
'The Israeli government has demonstrated an intent to maintain the domination of Jewish Israelis over Palestinians across Israel and the [occupied Palestinians territory],' the report says.
A study led by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) reveals that mitigating methane emissions immediately could slow the rate of global warming by 30% and prevent at least 0.5ºC of warming by 2100.
Methane has 80 times the warming potential of CO2 in the first 20 years that it’s in the atmosphere and accounts for 25% of current warming. However, most policies and global goals focus on 100-year models that minimize the short-term effects of methane emissions.
The researchers state that policy should directly address methane instead of assuming it will decrease with decarbonization efforts.
