Why has Ted Cruz grown even more frazzled and shrill than usual? Because he knows that all republican bullshitters like him reach a peak and then end up on the downslide for the rest of their career, and he knows he's on that downslide, and knows he can't stop it.
Republican bullshitters go always through the same career arc. You start off with nonstop lies carefully crafted to appeal to conservative bottom feeders, who quickly build you up, until you reach a point where you're in mainstream America's face for awhile, and they hate you.
If you're a republican bullshitter, the key is to pull off your big career accomplishment – the presidency, corrupt legislation, whatever it is – before the mainstream decides you're a menace to the country starts aggressively pushing back against you.
Because once the mainstream media and the mainstream public decide that you're the most dangerous republican bullshitter, they relentlessly chip away at you. The media digs up your scandals. The public mocks you, and mocks their right wing friends and relatives who listen to you.
At that point even right wingers decide that the republican bullshitter in question has too much baggage and isn't worth hanging onto. Instead, right wingers prefer to seek out a new republican bullshitter, without the baggage, that their mainstream friends won't mock them over.
Mainstream America took big swings at Ted Cruz in 2016 and again in 2018, and wounded him, but couldn't quite send him into a tailspin. Then Cancun was the straw that broke him, he became and overwhelming punchline, and now even right wingers see him as too messy to worship.
So now Ted Cruz is on a downslide. The thing is, republican bullshitters never do recover from being on the downslide. Maybe they can keep their seat for a long time, but they're no longer in position to be an official or unofficial leader, even on their own side. They just fade.
Cruz knows it too, because he's unfamiliar with the human race, but he's not oblivious as to how politics works. So now he's just sort of sitting there for the rest of his career, having to put int he work of a Senator, but getting no real corrupt rewards from it.
A lot of republican bullshitters resign at this point in their career, and cash in with a multimillion dollar payday at a conservative think tank or Fox News. We'll see what Ted Cruz does. Don't be shocked if he "retires" in a couple years. We'll see.
The peak points for republican bullshitters are always interesting. Mitch McConnell, who is savvy, lasted decades before he (arguably) peaked by losing his majority job in the Trump debacle. Ben Carson, who is clinically ill, peaked like two weeks after he entered politics.
But these republicans always peak, because they're all bullshitters, and bullshitters always peak, unless 1) They spend their entire career just under the level of mainstream scrutiny, or 2) They're incredibly savvy enough to survive that scrutiny.
On the other hand, Joe Biden has been in the political spotlight for like fifty years, he's been Vice President, he's been under mainstream scrutiny for most of his life, he's now U.S. President... and he still hasn't peaked. Because he's not a bullshitter. Funny how that works.

Turns out the Feds raided Rudy Giuliani and Victoria Toensing today – two Trump “lawyers” who helped craft the phony Biden-Ukraine scandal. Feds also pursuing John Solomon, who wrote the phony op-ed hyping the scandal. They’re all going down – and it leads right to Donald Trump.
Keep in mind the Feds have typically already obtained a person’s electronic communications from service providers before even carrying out a raid like this. The raid is to see if they can get them on obstruction, see if there’s bonus evidence, and let them know they’re screwed.
So now it’s a race to see if Rudy or Toensing (or anyone else who realizes they’re about to get raided) cuts a plea deal first against the others. First cooperator gets a lenient deal. Everyone else gets long prison sentences.

Even with today's Rudy Giuliani raid, the doomsday pundits are still insisting too much "damage" has been done and he's going to "get away with it all." But that's gibberish. To obtain this kind of warrant, the Feds would need to already have enough evidence to put Rudy away.
Rudy's indictment and arrest is now a given. But even when that happens, the doomsday pundits will move onto their next round of scare tactics by insisting that no jury will ever convict a Trump henchman – even though multiple juries have already convicted Trump henchmen.
If Rudy cuts a plea deal, the doomsday pundits will insist it means he got away with it all. If Rudy is convicted, the doomsday pundits will insist he'll somehow never serve time. And if Rudy dies while awaiting trial, the doomsday pundits will definitely insist he won by dying.

Trump’s favorability rating is down to 32%. It means he’s completely non-viable. You can’t win a national election with just your base; they’re always too small. Trump has little left but his base. It’s why lost badly in 2020, and why he isn’t a serious consideration for 2024.
A lot of moderates and conservatives gave Trump a chance in 2016, but once they saw his ineptness in office, they were done with him by 2020. Those same folks are done with him forever. And his base simply isn’t large enough to be relevant. His base was never remotely relevant.
The big concern for 2024 isn’t Trump. It’s the next right wing bullshitter who has a Trump-like message but not the baggage of proven ineptitude.

And no it won’t be DeSantis. His baggage of ineptitude in office in Florida is already on full national display.

Someday I’ll manage to convince the Democratic Party to stop sending “we’re gonna lose” fundraising emails. Who the hell would donate money to a campaign they’re being told is going to lose anyway? You want people to get behind your campaign, explain why you’re going to win.
This is part of a broader problem in which a lot of Democratic strategists still think the only way to win is to tell anyone who will listen that they’re losing. They think it’s the only way to prevent people from getting “complacent.” But that’s a notion from another era.
Modern campaigns last forever. The public doesn’t want to grind it out for you, if they think you’ll lose anyway.

But if you realistically spell out how you can and will win, the nation will rally around you. Social media will be abuzz. Voting for you will be the cool thing.

Most likely outcome is New York goes to court, earns the right to prove it has at least 89 more residents than the Census counted, and gets to keep its House seat.

You should be outraged at the illegitimate Census. But doomsday panic is never your friend. Don't whine, win.
I know other liberal pundits are all doing the "all hope is lost and we're doomed" routine over these Census reapportionments. But these same liberal pundits said the Census shift would be much more severe in the GOP's direction. So these numbers are better than they predicted.
Pundits can't have it both ways. They can't predict that something is going to be super disastrous and use it as an excuse for the "all hope is lost" routine, and then when that thing turns out to only be kinda bad, also use that as evidence that all hope is lost. Pick one.

President Biden is making the right move by sharing the U.S. stash of the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine with the rest of the world. It's not up to U.S. standards and never was approved here, maybe never will be. We don't need it anyway. But the rest of the world needs it badly.
Some will argue that Biden should have done this sooner. But there was always the possibility that the FDA would approve AstraZeneca while the U.S. was still short on vaccine supply. Biden waited until that window closed.
Others will argue that Biden should be charging foreign governments for these doses. But the dollar amount is negligible. And frankly these doses are worth more in international goodwill and influence than their cash value. Also, not charging gets it distributed faster.
