Breaking: the RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team has charged an Alberta man who was posting extremist content online and had a cache of guns and explosives. They believe Kelvin Benjamin Maure was a a "threat to critical infrastructure, the police and the public."
Here's a full list of charges.
A few more shots of what police seized.
The RCMP don't go into what sort of extremist stream this person is allegedly part of but I'm hoping to speak with the head of INSET later this afternoon. If you have any info about this, my DMs are open.
He was arrested after a police operation in February the Heatherlea Estates area of Parkland County, near Township Road 540 East of RR 20. If you happened to see anything please reach out.
A quote I missed on first read through, from the head of the Alberta INSET unit. "As the investigation continues, we are attempting to determine whether the accused’s actions were motivated by a specific ideology or if there were broader intentions to his activities.”
Close up of the patches on some of the clothing police seized. I can't find any other examples of the "Doug's Darlings" patch online.
Also, anyone have any guesses what this thing is?
Correction from RCMP: the accused's middle name is Gregory, not Benjamin.
Just got off the phone with RCMP Insp. Scott Issac. He said police are still determining what circles this person ran in but he said there was an anti-government flavour to some of his posts. He said the explosives police seized were homemade, but he would not go into detail.
Just to confirm the weapons seized are
• An AK-47
• AK-74
• Cooey bolt action rifle
• SKS rifle
• A Viking brand pistol
NEWS: Court records show Maure was in possession of triacetone triperoxide, the same material used in the 7/7/05 bombings in London. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7_July_20…
An odd, additional detail: the day before his arrest, Maure is accused of breaking into a shed owned by oil and gas company Obsidian Energy, and damaging a propane tank.

From the inbox: the AB NDP is claiming it has a “leaked video that raises new questions about Danielle Smith’s interference in criminal prosecutions.” #ableg
Here's the video. It's a conversation with Artur Pawlowski.
"We're in a bit of a bind," Smith says. References Jody Wilson-Raybould, says she doesn't have clemency power like in the U.S.
Looks like Grant Stapon from Bennett Jones' Calgary office is representing Shandro. Ken McEwan out of Vancouver is on for the law society.
The law society panel hearing the matter is Bud Melnyk (chair), Grant Vogeli and Edith Kloberdanz. Shandro is in a conference room, accompanied by his wife.
BREAKING: Alberta’s highest court has unanimously dismissed the case of Annette Lewis, a terminally ill transplant patient seeking to be re-added to the wait list despite her refusal to take a COVID shot. More to come. edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…
From the decision: "We are not persuaded this court can, or ought to, interfere with generalized medical judgments or individualized clinical assessments involving Ms. Lewis’ standard of care."
"While Ms Lewis has the right to refuse to be vaccinated against COVID- 19, the charter cannot remediate the consequences of her choice."
UPDATED: Edmonton landlord Abdullah Shah killed in southwest shooting Sunday night. Going to do a bit of a thread on one of Edmonton's best known crime figures. edmontonjournal.com/news/crime/edm…
Longer tenured #yeg reporters know the story better than I, but Shah came to prominence in 2008 when he was prosecuted as ringleader of a major mortgage fraud scheme. At the time he got out of jail, he & his associates owned 93 properties in the inner-city pressreader.com/canada/edmonto…
