Personally, I think we should move beyond the point where the First Spouse (if there is one) is "in charge" of decorating the White House or designing the Rose Garden, unless they're into it.
Like we don't expect the First Lady/Gentleman to cook for every state dinner. They hire an executive chef (who yeah, seeks input/sign off but...) for that.
I have zero love or respect for Melania, but I think the Rose Garden had some real drainage issues that had to be attended to.
And if we're going to do before/after photo outrage, those photos should be at the exact same time of year.
also online petitions are just email harvesting schemes. all of them. and easily pumped and gamed. and should almost never lead to a news article.

And, the "Melania pulled up Jackie's cherry trees and roses" bit is...fake news. Crabapple trees were relocated. Again, there were structural and drainage issues.
If you're wondering why this story is back in the news, quite likely it's because somebody had an email harvesting quota to meet.
And none of these pubs or any other should have run a news story off an overheated email harvesting scheme.
But you, the news consumer, can keep yourself from being manipulated into cycles of fake outrage. Story about a petition? Pass.
Now, if we want to engage in a vigorous debate about whether at least some spaces in the White House should not be trapped in an interior design time warp, fine. See also: drapery and carpet with the giant seal.

here's that principal. it wasn't until a former student ran into him teaching at her own daughter's (different) school that he was finally investigated and prosecuted: washingtonpost.com/local/crime/fo…
and, when he finally was convicted, Ken Starr, Charlie Gibson, Nat Geo CEO/EIC Gilbert M. Grosvenor, and other luminaries pleaded for clemency. KNOWING HE MAY HAVE MOLESTED IF NOT THEIR OWN KIDS THEN THEIR FRIENDS.
1/ *feeling some substack et al heat. And by heat, they want to keep all revenue on their platform
*$ Only 5 million? Facebook and Google have effectively stripped the entire journalism ecosystem of revenue. And this is all? reuters.com/technology/fac…
2/ every single time Facebook has "offered' journalists "tools" to help them, there's always been a ginormous catch.
1/ Absolute must-read from @H_Lev on how Robinhood. The proximate tragedy is the suicide of one young investor who thought he'd have to repay gobs of money. But the real story is how dangerous the "gamification" interface is on a much broader scale: motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
2/ You've likely read a lot about Robinhood and Gamestop, but do you understand how Robinhood’s revenue model depends on its traders making frequent, uninformed trades? tl;dr: Most customers lose money while Robinhood and ****its Wall Street partners**** clean up.
3/ You might think Robinhood makes money by getting tiny fee or fraction of your trade. Nope. It makes money from finder’s fee from Wall Street firms and flash traders who make money *executing* those trades.
My timeline full of men across the ideological spectrum who are now upset that people are still wearing masks outside.
Why...do you care so much?
I swear if you think of asking men to wear a mask as asking them to wear a condom, all the rage and disdain makes sense.
Some people still wear masks because they are afraid and maybe for good reason, you don’t know! And some for social signaling and some out of some kind of fear of mild rebuke and jfc, this is not our biggest problem.
