• Commit to writing consistently for one year
• Worst case - No one reads it
• Best case - It changes your life
• There's no such thing as an aspiring writer,
You either write or you don't
2/ Be the hardest worker in the room
• You don't have to be the best or smartest
writer
• Instead, be the hardest working / most
consistent
• The ability to show up each day is
a superpower that most don't possess
3/ Get out of your own way
• Often our self-worth is derived from
accomplishments, instead, take pride in
taking action.
• Everyone is figuring it out as they go,
Imposter Syndrome exists for us all.
• Move past your initial fear and publish
your work
4/ Put in your reps
• Writing is a muscle, it takes repetition for it
to grow and improve
•Early on, avoid perfectionism and focus on
publishing content
•Take advantage of the fact that your
audience is small, make mistakes now, learn
from them and keep improving
5/ Headlines & Framing Matter
• Write 10-15 headlines for each article or
post
• This is your chance to grab the reader's
attention in a sea of content. Stand Out
• Frame your content in a way to
emotionally connect with the audience
6/ Be in tune with the Zeitgeist
• What are people talking about currently?
• Write timely pieces that connect with
the current topical interests of your
audience
• Understand the difference between "timely"
and "timeless" content. Write both
7/ Know your numbers
• Writers often assume they know
what their audience wants to hear
• Track the data and understand the
engagement of your audience
• Publish small "timely" articles to gauge
interest
• Then expand on your most popular content
8/ Talent without distribution is wasted
• It is much easier to receive feedback on
platforms where an audience already exists
• Build Relationships
• Twitter and Quora are great for providing
fast feedback loops
• Take it, learn from it, and improve
9/ Inspiration
• Shoutout to the following accounts for
inspiring me to continue to write each day.
