Premier Ford is once again focusing on variants and borders. I wonder if they have some internal polling that suggests this is resonating, because they've been using this line for *weeks* at this point.
Okay, this is a bit preposterous? Ford keeps saying we'll work hard to make sure the variants don't come in(????). This government knew variants could spread in February, and they made several deliberate decisions that were counter to expert advice on how to slow the spread (???)
The homie @harrisonlowman is up at bat, asks Ford if he thinks his government made mistakes in his handling of the pandemic. Ford, once again, refers back to the feds' vaccine supply problems and borders. There...is no humility here. It's very not-in-keeping with tearful Ford.
I mean it's akin to being like do you think you made any mistakes here, and answering yeah everyone else made mistakes
"The variants in the workplace? Are coming from the borders!" — Ford just now.

This is disorienting. I just —
"I don't discuss cabinet moves with anyone" — Doug Ford, and also, presumably, Clint Eastwood?

“It feels like we are losing her to an addiction.” Man, @JaneLytv did her excellent thing and talked to family members of QAnon believers. No story about the QAnon delusion hit me as hard as this one. buzzfeednews.com/article/janely…
One person, about her mom: “Occasionally, I become emotional because we can’t have any normal conversations anymore."

Another, on her best friend: "We've gotten through life/death situations. Together....I've lost my best friend. I don't think she's ever going to come back.”
Ooof. "My cousin is divorcing her husband over his obsession with QAnon."

Frédéric, in Belgium, about his partner: "This poison is troubling our relationship, so we avoid the subject. But this is not the right thing to do, I would like her to wake up from this bad dream."

New from me: the pandemic meant an increase in housework. In straight marriages, that labour has fallen mostly to women.

An expert said, "I don’t think it’s that fathers are trying to skirt their labor... It’s the effect of a lot of small interactions.”

This piece is having a bit of a ~ moment ~ so let me say a few things about it. First things first, the replies have drawn in "that's misandry!" internet, which is gross and to be expected, but also drawn in lots of "noooo shit" internet, which is fair and to be expected.
The story is about how the pandemic is making a pattern that already existed worse. Dr. @CaitlynMCollins told me that research shows on the whole, more couples say they believe in egalitarian ideals, but when couples have kids, those ideals tend to erode a bit.

ACMs say that EOTY was a tie between Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood. The people (me) have questions. #ACMawards
Look what god gave her: an award she shouldn’t have to share but 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️
Just... last time EOTY went to someone who was not a man was...............2011. It was Taylor. If Carrie didn’t win this year, next year’s ACM story would’ve been: it has been a literal decade since a woman won EOTY.

A semi-serious question: just by virtue of being forced to pay attention to so many things, at a certain point, the # of new cases a day might become...background noise. A number you see and don't necessarily even register. What volume of new cases could become "normal" to you?
Judgin' by the tweets of today, the number sure as hell isn't 313 new cases a day. But could 100 new cases a day blend into the background, and not incite panic for you? 150?
Obviously, there are levels to it, like how many does my specific health unit have, etc. But is there a place where you could move the pandemic to the back of your brain, if it's holding steady at a certain number province-wide?
