đMay-onnaise, May-day, May-hem, May-weed,
Maybirds mayfly and while mayting maybe may sing?
Let's follow @NicoMartinFC's cues.
1 Day,
1 Word,
1 Short story (scifi, fantastic or fantasy), #writever to be seen and retweeted by @WriteverJ,
In one thread, for posterity
1/Countdown
He wiped the name on the placard, wrote "Last Days Saints" and moved the hands of the giant clock on his chest.
Then he started to ring his bell, shouting :
"Listen ! The countdown to the end of the world has just begun!"
Our best product is group pictures. As it's been forbidden to gather more than three persons in the same place to avoid spreading the new viruses, these pictures are studio made, with green screens. People really love them.
Using empathetic robots to take care of our elders was a pretty good idea.
But when the person dies, the robots loses their mind.
You can see them hike,
talking to themselves.
We call them broken Mike.
â I think we shouldn't attach so much importance to our opening theme. I mean, our parents are either depressed or over excited. How can their choice be relevant and decisive for all our life?
â What's your song?
â Elton John's Candle in the wind.
When he learnt about the new epidemic, the billionaire bought the airline company and asked the crew to keep flying.
"I'm my own guest now", he said.
They've been turning around, refueling in-flight , for 3 weeks now.
When I accepted that mission, eager to spend six months alone, away from all the human kind , I also accepted the rule: no question.
It's been 12 weeks now. I erased all my questions. Only one remains. Who am I?
If you want to check if the person is a human being or a robot, just try to surprise them.
The androids are unable to experience that feeling.
However, be careful, the humans are fed up with that test.
They can get pretty violent.
8/alarm
It started with a night fishing fisherman.
He had installed a bite alarm which buzzed.
He called his wife, then disappeared.
Now that 4 persons are missing they realize something unusual is going on into this lake. #writever
9/Emergency exit
They lost their case.
The court said the players' security can't be part of their Bible escape game.
Not everybody knows what to do to get out of the Eden Garden, of Egypt land or Lazarus grave.
They'll have to put up real emergency exit signs.
As men's behaviour forced women into a night lockdown for years, we suggest that, for 6 months we switch the roles.
Men stay at home when the evening comes, then we see what happens.
In this therapeutic approach, they use a pathology to cure another one.
For example, they make you experiment panic attacks to heal your depression, or maniac crisis for low self esteem.
The effects are still to be proven.
They say the implantation of the new detoxification device is painless.
They lie. My sister is a nurse in their hospital.
She says each night you can hear some clients screaming.
They then gave them painkillers to which they eventually get addicted.
There's something wrong with the clones.
Although their brains and hearts seem to work properly, their lungs don't.
I mean, everything is OK, but they can't breath automatically and all need permanent mechanical ventilation.
Perhaps a lack of will.
14/Suffocating
While the climatologists are still searching causes for the suffocating heat we all felt on February 12, the conspiracy theorists already have many stories.
One of them is about gaseous aliens visiting us. #writever
15/Mutation
In that school, all of us have a mutation, but not every mutation is a superpower.
I perspire excessively, which is certainly interesting for science, but doesn't help me to make friends.
You remember the fistulated cows scandal? The cows with a viewing window on their belly.
In Japan, they do the same with pregnant women. At first it was only for a specific medical purpose, until the women made it fashionable.
The anti intrusion protocol was clear and well known, but we didn't consider all the possibilities.
How can one escape a psychic invasion?
We'll have to face the consequences of this.
After the global warming and the sea level rise, swimming became quickly a very useful skill.
Climbing was valued too. You often couldn't reach your building entrance.
19/Crowd movement
Mona Blake was a specialist of group psychology and social interaction. She was known for her work on crowds and her research on the most efficient words to transform and control crowd movements without violence.
She ironically died alone in her house. #writever
20/Aggression
Scientists have understood, for 3 years now, the biological mechanisms of aggression.
It could be easy to resolve the problem of violence in the world. But no country trusts the others enough to accept to be the first to get disarmed.
You remember the virus ILOVEYOU? And SASSER?
Both were spread by attached files.
Let me introduce BIGFLUE. It's an airborne virus that targets smartphones. Tiny particles enter the device, then execute their evil program.
There's no reason to panic.
Losing one's job isn't supposed to be so sad.
I'm sure your parents will be OK to give you half a million until you find another one.
What? They're poor!
Your grandparents too?
Oh my God!
The persons who cared less about the retreat of democracy were the same who laughed at the retreat of the glaciers.
They were convinced they would be protected from any catastrophe.
We now know they were wrong.
24/radio station
A radio station was a place where the podcast makers had to go into studios to record their episodes.
At this time, the machines were so big and sophisticated that you needed technicians to handle them and you couldn't have your own portable studio. #writever
25/Atomic shelter
Taking advantage of this new threat and people's fear was easy. We sold many atomic shelters, some of them not even built, and on the other hand, we sold the buyers data and the shelters location.
Nothing wrong, everyone seemed happy.
26/emergency transmission
Excuse me, professor, but this is the 9th patient claiming they've received an emergency transmission from outer space.
May be we should ask them what the messages say.
Don't watch me like that, professor, it's just an idea.
OK, forget it! #writever
27/silence
The government took many laws to silence their opponents. The president and his ministers, therefore, became more audibles, showing the citizens who they really were. That's how they lost the elections.
Due to the explosion of drug prices, people were looking for other ways to manage their suffering.
That's how many of them started to talk to their colleagues and realized they could work differently.
And they did.
29/Smoke
â Can you name three techniques used for death penalty during the dark times of humanity?
â Hmm, electric chair, guillotine and... er, smoking?
â No. Smoking was a low speed suicide method.
â Lethal injection?
â Great ! #writever
30/Darkness
The Harsh Light times with their security obsession were awful for those who tried to stay creative humans.
Fortunately, with the energy transition, the darkness came back, covering the nights, smooth and fertile.
This month's #writever list will make April fashionable. Be a part of it:
One day, one word, one science fiction (or fantasy) short story in one tweet.
Weave them together in one thread, always using the #writever tag, so @WriteverJ can see and retweet you.
1/Warm
She was born in a warm blanket
She grew up, wore a warm jacket
Earth got hot! She said: Wrong Planet!
Then she fled with her great rocket. #writever
2/Hook
âThey say he's the best hand surgeon of all known worlds!
â Yes. He can treat upper extremity injuries for at least 45 species.
â Ok. Then tell me why they never say his name?
â He's from earth and his real name is Hook!
