Excellent #KIDNEYcon session by ⁦@criticalbeansmd⁩ about MAP and other perfusion pressures.
👉 Blood pressure is not the same as blood FLOW.
Under normal conditions, pulse pressure wave precedes flow volume wave. #KIDNEYcon
In sepsis, vasodilation can lead to decreased speed of pressure wave and increased speed of flow wave.
Hence increasing MAP as isolated target, may not be reliable index of flow 👉 organ perfusion.
Factors affecting blood flow
But don't forget about the venous pressure and consequences of volume overload.
A state often misinterpreted as 'total body overloaded, but intravascular depleted' ... resulting in more volume administered 🚫
