On the one hand, this is pretty bizarre: Salvini’s party has been known for strong pro-Kremlin positions since 2014. On the other hand, the Lega recently started to move closer to the centre right and now seems to distance from its pro-Moscow past. 3/4
The latter may be a tactical move in order to build better relations with the Polish national-conservatives from the PiS who are very critical of Russia: Polish, Italian and Hungarian rightists are discussing a new political union in the European Parliament. 4/4

A few days ago, the Austrian far-right FPÖ has launched its first significant attack on the national security. /1
The FPÖ is a minor partner in the governmental coalition led by the centre-right ÖVP, but the far right control several important (security-wise) ministries such as the Interior and Defence. /2
Now, a police unit headed by an FPÖ member raided the office of the domestic security agency BVT that, in particular, deals with the problem of right-wing extremism in the country. Homes of some BVT officers were searched too. /3
