THREAD: Ranee Management is evicting a single, young woman in the middle of Ontario’s third wave—after forcing her to live in a deadly, disrepaired and mold-infested apartment for 14 years, with no offers of compensation or relocation.
#RaneeManagement has neglected repairs in Gloria's* unit for years. Mold has taken over her entire home—from the bathroom to the bedroom and the living room. She suffers respiratory issues as a result. Her stove has not worked for years and she has not had hot water since August.
Gloria pays below-market rent. Living in Canada's most expensive city means that she has no other housing options. This also means that her corporate landlord has an incentive to push her out of her home using crooked tactics, like letting her unit deteriorate beyond repair.
Gloria is now facing a Section 78 eviction. Like many Ontarians, she fell behind on rent because of Covid. Her landlord’s paralegal, Ilana Glickman, told her not to attend her eviction hearing & lied to get the LTB to approve an unaffordable repayment plan Gloria never agreed to.
#IlanaGlickman filed for eviction as soon as Gloria defaulted on her plan—a plan Gloria didn’t even see until one week before receiving her LTB eviction order.

Like many corporate landlords, CEOs David Zolty & Ben Friedman have used the pandemic as an opportunity to ram through above guideline rent increases & evict tenants who pay below-market rent. They've dragged hundreds of working class families to court for eviction during Covid.
David Zolty has gotten rich by forcing tenants to live in disrepair—an issue that's impacted working class ppl long before the pandemic. We live in conditions hazardous to our health while corporate LLs keep hiking up the rent to push us out and flip our homes for a higher price.
Tenants of #RaneeManagement aren't taking this lying down. Across the city, they are getting organized—Fountainhead Road in the west end, to @ParkGoodwood in the east end, and Gloria's neighbours, @gambletenants. They've had enough, and they're coming together to fight back! ✊

The hearing is delayed 20 mins because of what adjudicator Dale Whitmore calls "technical difficulties". The chaotic online LTB hearings have been riddled with delays, confusion & tech issues, but the LTB is still choosing to make online hearings permanent post-pandemic Image
Hearing to resume at 10AM because Whitmore didn't get the lawyers' written arguments, emailed to the LTB. This issue constantly comes up since the LTB moved online. But the LTB's measure of success is not how fairly its hearings run, but how many evictions it can push through
