THREAD: Live from the LTB. Today starting at 9AM the Goodwood Tenant Union argues why corporate landlords shouldn't be allowed to hide their faces from the families they're trying to evict. Login now at bit.ly/SLVCzoom92
The hearing is delayed 20 mins because of what adjudicator Dale Whitmore calls "technical difficulties". The chaotic online LTB hearings have been riddled with delays, confusion & tech issues, but the LTB is still choosing to make online hearings permanent post-pandemic
Hearing to resume at 10AM because Whitmore didn't get the lawyers' written arguments, emailed to the LTB. This issue constantly comes up since the LTB moved online. But the LTB's measure of success is not how fairly its hearings run, but how many evictions it can push through
Tenant's counsel begins opening statements. The call-in option for online hearings is intended for accessibility, as only two thirds of low income households in Ontario have internet access. It should NOT be for corporate landlords to use to hide from their tenants and the public
The Landlord wants to frame the community response to their mass evictions as harassment. Tenant's council makes the point that the tweets the Landlord has submitted as evidence are NOT a matter of harassment, but a matter of free speech and political conversation
Ilana Glickman, paralegal for a multimillion dollar corporate landlord trying to evict and retaliate against several working class households who fell behind on rent during #COVID19, claims she's being cyberbullied by mean tweets 😂
Glickman says a main concern is AWKWARD SCREENSHOTS being taken of Ranee reps during the hearings. Is she serious?! Tenants are at risk of losing their homes, but this is what Ranee is worried about 🤦🤦🤦
Whitmore reserves his decision, saying he needs time to consider all arguments. Ranee's argument, for allowing their reps to hide their faces from the tenants they're trying to evict, is hinged on stifling freedom of speech & political conversation around corporate landlords

THREAD: Ranee Management is evicting a single, young woman in the middle of Ontario’s third wave—after forcing her to live in a deadly, disrepaired and mold-infested apartment for 14 years, with no offers of compensation or relocation.
#RaneeManagement has neglected repairs in Gloria's* unit for years. Mold has taken over her entire home—from the bathroom to the bedroom and the living room. She suffers respiratory issues as a result. Her stove has not worked for years and she has not had hot water since August.
Gloria pays below-market rent. Living in Canada's most expensive city means that she has no other housing options. This also means that her corporate landlord has an incentive to push her out of her home using crooked tactics, like letting her unit deteriorate beyond repair.
