Firing up Brian De Palma's "Femme Fatale" for 30 Days of Brian De Pal-MAY
Opening a movie with a clip from Double Indemnity doesn't leave much doubt about the kind of story you're preparing to tell!
Just from watching the opening of this movie and the brilliant opening visual of the camera pulling back from the TV I know this is going to be good. De Palma is a master
Phenomenal film!

I have something I need to get off my chest that might upset a few people on this list ... the other day I rewatched Hoosiers, a movie I loved as a kid.

And it’s a terrible film
Like it’s not just bad. It’s genuinely awful. It’s based on a true story ... and it’s not remotely accurate.

The soundtrack is a crime against nature.

Barbara Hershey’s character is badly written and her performance is dreadful
Gene Hackman’s coach is not a rough around the edges, tough coach with a heart of gold ... he’s a dick. And it’s hard to tell what he actually teaches the players about basketball.

In my latest for Truth and Consequences, I make the case for Democrats waging the fight against the filibuster on gun control…
I wrote a longer piece on this for @USATODAY calling on Americans to demand that Congress finally stop dragging its feet on gun control and do something to staunch America's gun carnage…
Democrats have the political advantage on guns right now. Background checks are enormously popular; the Democratic caucus is united in supporting gun control, and the NRA has never been weaker. Now is the time to have this fight.

Based on follow-up reporting, we have a much clearer sense of the motive for the spa shootings in Atlanta - and it's not what many initially assumed…
It's important to correct the record on this because a) facts matter and b) motives generally don't when it comes to mass shootings. What matters is that easy access to guns are what makes these types of shootings possible. That's where the media focus should be.
We in the media are still failing on how we cover mass shootings. We obsess over motive and ignore the elephant in the room - EASY ACCESS TO GUNS. The alleged shooter in Atlanta bought his weapon the DAY OF HIS CRIME

In my latest for Truth and Consequences, I ask why is Cornel West getting a pass for making anti-Semitic comments?…
After West was denied tenure last month he suggested that supporters for Israel were responsible for his tenure denial
He then went a step further and specifically cited Jews "in high places"

THREAD: So I have a quick story about Cuomo as a boss based on personal experience.

Back in 1999 I was offered a job to be his chief speechwriter at HUD. I was looking to move to New York so I wasn't terribly interested but I was considering taking it.
About a month after the offer I had still not given an answer. Then one day I got a vmail from a press aide. I was worried they we were going to expect an answer from me and I didn't have one.
So I call back and the press aide says to me, "I'm not pushing you to make a decision but I just want to let you know ... that Andrew is a really difficult person to work for."

In other words, she was trying to talk me out of taking the job.

Today most if not all House Republicans are going to vote against a COVID relief bill that has broad popular support. It’s the smart political move for them - and a reminder as to why the filibuster needs to go…
Most GOP House members represent districts that are heavily tilted toward Republicans. Their biggest threat is not losing in a general election but rather being primaried. And to vote for a bill written by Democrats practically invites a primary challenge.
The same is true of all but 1 or 2 GOP Senators. Most are in red-leaning states. Voting with Dems will not win them many votes and will erode their support among Republicans
