While Nursing professors hypothesize the etiology, it's well documented it was the lethal AIDS pandemic. Nurse's left out of fear, PTSD, and frustration. From 1980 until 2004. AIDs was death sentence. 2

In 1985 the mode of transmision was known and prevention. The clean needles program later started and condoms were given out free.
Despite this ppl continued having unprotected sex, not wearing gloves, and sharing needles. 3

By the mid- 1990s they started designing needles hubs and moving to safetize catheters. HCP were accidently stuck and though rare, some sero-converted. When discussing a HIV+, test partner history was sought. It was shocking. 4

To this day there is no jab or cure for HIV. Life never did return to the free love- unprotected sex era. Those Nurses that remained learned to accept, noncompliance and the death that followed 5

6- COVID19 is not the first Pandemic in USA history. 1918 and 1985 had the same pattern of behavior. Noncompliance with Condoms is the sames as masks. AIDs still 40 yrs later.
And eventually the exodus of 1918, 1985, will occur in 2021. 6

Compliance can't be forced in a democracy. Ppl that do not get vaccinated or use masks will have bad outcomes. Smokers were shunned decades ago. They still smoke. This is the reality of human behavior and outcomes. 7
