A new Ipsos poll suggests Americans are the most optimistic they’ve been about the country’s direction in 15 years
The survey of 500 adults, which was conducted right as President Biden approached his 100th day in office, found 64% express optimism about the country’s near future, the highest number since December 2006.
However, 28% of Americans in the same poll believe the country has become more divided since Biden took office, more than the 23% who believe it’s become more united.
According to a different IBD/TIPP poll, President Biden’s approval rating currently stands above 61% — down slightly from the 64.6% when he took office, but still within what conventional political wisdom would call a ‘honeymoon’ phase for a new president.

In an official statement, Pres. Biden announced that the U.S.’s admissions cap for refugees will increase from Trump’s record-low of 15,000 to 62,500 for this fiscal year, which ends in September
Last month, Biden appeared set to sign an emergency declaration that would have maintained Trump’s record-low cap, saying that the number was ‘justified by humanitarian concerns’ and was ‘in the national interest.’
The move sparked criticism from Democratic lawmakers who viewed it as a failure to his commitment to reverse Trump’s anti-refugee policies.
