Again, "normal" is not something we should want to return to, if "normal" means the way things have been.

From day 1, our systems have been instinctively hostile to attempts to mitigate loss of life, because our systems far prefer to pay the price of calamity in human life rather than in money.

And it's still here! My kids' friend got Covid this week. There are multiple notices each week from school of infections. We haven't reached herd immunity, and conservative outlets are actively working to promote vaccine hesitancy, mask hostility, and outright misinformation.
