2/ So what is the metaverse?

To explain, we borrow a definition from @enjin:

The "metaverse" is a shared digital space that seamlessly integrates aspects of the real world — specifically things like ownership, identity, and financial value.

3/ While the metaverse may integrate aspects of the real world, it is not constrained by the laws of physics and presents near-infinite possibilities.

Over time it will develop its own societal norms, economic and financial systems, and will provide individual sovereignty.

4/ Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a crucial building block of the metaverse.

They establish and authenticate true, digital ownership. From there, we believe all digital content is going on-chain (h/t @jbrukh)

5/ We also think the future of work, play and recreation is going virtual.

@DecentralGames employs people as virtual hosts in their @decentraland establishments.

@AxieInfinity enables players in developing countries – like the Philippines – to make a living from the game.

6/ To see the metaverse as the future of work, we need to accept that today's definition of work is a legacy, leftover from the industrial revolution.

We have always defined value through the lens of economic output 🧐

This model is outdated.

7/ Blockchains allow us to define other forms of value, and unlock previously dormant resources to facilitate value creation.

This will change the very definition of work, and we believe it will happen in the metaverse.

8/ Fashion is an interesting example. Creating digital fashion items as NFTs, potentially pairing digital items with physical ones, will become increasingly common.

@TheMetaFactory is lightyears ahead and already doing this.

9/ As VR tech improves, we can see our real-life experiences shifting to the digital realm 🌏➡️🌐

This could dramatically change our social structures. How do we interact and govern in the metaverse? What happens to our perception of nation-states? There is much to learn

10/ This is where MetaPortal comes in.

We will cover individual projects in the $MVI from @indexcoop and share thoughts on macro developments relating to the metaverse. We hope you’ll join us on this journey.
