As I'm preparing to join @ProductHunt, I studied many community builders and founders. Here are some tactics and lessons I learned πŸ‘‡

A thread 🧡
1/ Build a give-first and value-first mindset:

The fundamentals of community building are tied to principles of giving what you have and sharing what you know(value). Ask yourself what you can offer and wholeheartedly put it out so others can benefit from it.
2/ Play infinite games:

Community building is an infinite game to play with long-term players. It is not a game to play to win. It is a pie that everyone can share and should be played to benefit each other.

Build that level of culture that drives communities to last longer.
3/ Always be service-minded:

The best community leaders are always service-minded. They give without expecting. They root for others to win. They empathize and understand what others want. They are compassionate and are willing to go one extra mile.
4/ Be a listener:

Great community builders are great listeners. They patiently observe what people want and provide value accordingly. It can get noisy so it is important to signal value and contextually create content around it.

Make it a habit to listen, learn and execute.
5/ People gravitate towards authenticity and empathy:

We live in a noisy world where we are surrounded by marketing BS so authenticity is really important.

Empathy makes you stand out. Show support and care towards people.

Make it about them and less about you.
6/ Delight the community:

Communities often can get boring after some time. So it is important to delight people and create a sense of belonging.

Find a way to keep the energy alive, either by sending t-shirts, stickers, swag, or celebrate by giving some positive shoutouts.
7/ Don’t be exclusive:

Don't act or be exclusive. Be available for others and show care. People sense that and they try to do the same with others. This is how you create a strong community that self-sustains by itself.
8/ Don’t play hierarchical games

Hierarchy doesn't work in communities. Everyone is equal and important whether you are building a community or being part of one.

Treat everyone the same way and respect others for their uniqueness.
That's all I have for you today! I will be sharing more lessons as I start my new role at @ProductHunt πŸ™Œ

Some rabbit holes are extremely good to go in!

I just went through all of @JamesClear’s 3-2-1 newsletter editions and here are 100 ideas from the man himself that are invaluable and shouldn't be missed

A thread 🧡
1/ β€œStart now. Optimize later. An imperfect start can always be improved, but obsessing over a perfect plan will never take you anywhere on its own.”

2/ β€œWhen making plans, think big. When making progress, think small.”
3/ β€œHabits will form whether you want them or not. Whatever you repeat, you reinforce.”

4/ β€œLife is short. And if life is short, then moving quickly matters. Launch the product. Write the book. Ask the question. Take the chance.
Be thoughtful, but get moving.”

From day 1, I intended to build @shoutoutso_ in public, and part of it is to be transparent with numbers, talk openly about our highs and lows, and share lessons as we grow!

I have been doing individual posts on numbers every week so wanted to one big thread with all updates πŸ‘‡πŸ½

2020 was a phenomenal year for me for many reasons, but the special one is getting my first startup gig through Twitter DMs πŸ’―

While I'm fulfilling the goal of working at a startup, I'm currently looking for a transition to a new one πŸ’ͺ🏽

TL;DR: I'm available in the market πŸ‘‡πŸ½
1/ Why hire me?

I build online communities by building products people want! So far shipped 12 projects using no-code tools which served hundreds of thousands of people in the community!

Currently I'm working full-time at Draftbit while helping build @shoutoutso_ on the side πŸš€
See for yourself:

I took Shoutout as an idea from zero to one, launched a no-code MVP, found my co-founder on Twitter, onboarded incredible startup leaders and creators as users, and now have a solid MRR πŸ‘‡

I have been doing this in public since day 1: wall.shoutout.so/shoutoutbip

Here are some lessons, tips, and hacks from our experience which hopefully help your launch πŸ‘‡πŸ½

A thread packed with actionable steps and examples 🧡
1/ Soft launch on Twitter:

Twitter is not just a social media platform. It is an amazing distribution system if you use it the right way πŸ’―

One of the most important things you need to do before launching on Twitter is to create a lot of hype around your product.
2/ Here are some checklist things you can do. These come with examples I have used for Shoutout:

*Give a sneak peek of what you about to launch:

*Involve the community in a way that markets your product organically:
