Notion—a tool you don't get one day, then 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 get it the next.

Here's how the @ProductLed team uses @NotionHQ to run our company: 🧵
Let's start with marketing.

Our Head of Content created a Marketing page with different projects for each channel — metrics, website updates, repurposing content, optimizing content, case studies, email marketing
Inside one of these projects are tasks.

Priority and state are automatically picked up once you've set the due date for each task.

You can attach google docs, and assign tasks to people — so things to get lost in Slack!
For our training programs, we have a kanban-style board of the things that need to be done.

Once again, we attached google docs, video files, email copy so things don't get lost in Slack or email.
For our live events and summits with guest experts and speakers, our Director of Operations created tables.

It has the speaker, topic of the talk, category, video style, and link to their talk.

Once again, everything is in one place so nothing gets lost in Slack or email.
For company strategy, we have a whole folder for that.

This includes our north star metric, initiatives, OKRs, quarterly plans.

This has made it easy to onboard new employees. It's essentially our company wiki.
Our HR docs are here as well.

As we plan out the growth of the company, we scope out future hire and what an ideal team looks like.

We also have our "Unique Abilities" or the personality of each team member.
Talking about ProductLed, we have our product strategy planning in Notion as well.

Most of the details of our products are in Google Docs. But we link it here so things don't get lost.
If I had to sum up @NotionHQ's value to our company, it's the hub that connects all the documents, files, & ideas for both strategic planning & execution.

Things get lost in Slack or email. Google Drive folder structure can become spaghetti.

Not perfect. But it works for now.
That's a wrap!

Product-led growth is often misunderstood as "product manager led."

In reality, it's the complete opposite.

PLG is a team sport. There's no other way to make it work.

Let me explain: Image
At the center of product-led growth is a common thread that ties every team together—user success.

Every function contributes to making sure users are successful with the product often *before* they become paying customers.

Let's break it down. Image
The product team designs and builds a product experience that helps more users become more successful.

The customer success team creates systems, programs, and resources to help users succeed with a product on their own.

Adding friction to the onboarding experience can boost your activation.

The key is to know the difference between good and bad friction.

I created a 3-step framework called "DAD" test to help with that: 🧵
First off, it may be counterintuitive, but user onboarding is a process to help people adopt new product habits.

And some friction is necessary for habit formation.

Let's jump in! 🙌

(And yes, the "DAD" test is a riff on Rob Fitzpatrick's MOM test!)
Good friction #1: Directs users to the next step.

Sometimes, adding a bit of friction during the early stages of the experience can help users experience the product's value quicker.

Want to see the best onboarding experiences?

Look at video games! 🎮

Here are 5 ways Super Mario Bros onboards new players:
Before we start, Miyamoto, a legendary Nintendo designer, explains the design secrets why Super Mario Bros' World 1-1 is instructive but fun to play.

It's a great read.

I break down the 5 onboarding tips from it below. Let's start!

Tip 1/5: Focus on the user's goal.

In the instruction booklet, players learn that Mario's mission is to "free the Mushroom Princess from the evil Koopa.”

Focusing on the mission is such a great way to motivate players to complete the game!

I've audited 100s of user onboarding experiences over the past 5 weeks

Here are the top 3 conversion killers: 🧵
1/ Email verification wall

It's become the standard for most apps.

Users sign up. They hit a page: "Please verify your email."

So they start waiting for the email.
Minutes pass and it's still not there.

They check spam.

It's still not there.

So they give up.
