I don't know y'all. Why do we have to take everything that we think should happen and try to claim it is "easy"? And anybody who's not doing it must be incompetent. That's not healthy. It's okay to acknowledge something as difficult and also say we should still do it.
This person wants to talk about "innovating" in the same breath where they're like "fuck you if you can't handle 40 hours a week of zoom". Come on now.
Some of y'all just wanna get back at people who wouldn't let you work remotely. I get it. This is your time to be petty. Don't let me stop you. I just want folks to know that we can see you, so I hope it's worth it.
Just so we're clear. I'm going back to the office as soon as it's okay to do so. Because that's how I work best and it is what I prefer. I do not feel bad about it. And also, I'm really okay if you stay at home. I will do my best to create an environment where we can both thrive.
It doesn't have to get more contentious than that. Sometimes I'll have conversations in the break room that you'll miss. Sometimes you'll get to take a nap at 1pm without telling anybody. Life is full of tradeoffs. We can still work together.

When we talk about reparations for Black Americans, it's not just some principled thing. We're talking decades of direct theft. Our wealth has been stolen from us over and over again. We are owed. And no matter how many times it is proven, nothing is done.
I also want to highlight the mechanism by which white supremacy stole from this woman.

Pay attention to this. They used other Black people to justify lowering the appraisal of her home. They said let's only compare to other Black homes. Quote from article: "I...
This is where you see that there is no magic. It's just humans making decisions. No system is immune to racism. Every system gives humans some discretion in how decisions are made. And every system has some racist white people making those decisions.

Something has been bothering for a long time about "virtue-signaling" as a phrase. I finally figured it out. This is white people saying "you know you're only pretending to care about this."

Virtue-signaling is how white people tell us they *know* they're full of shit.
Labels like virtue-signaling are an unintentional examination and acknowledgement of white culture. They're telling us that many white people don't believe what they say. They will conform to any ideology if they feel it serves them. They're saying that's what white people do.
As soon as you start to think about it this way, it's a pretty serious indictment. It's an acknowledgement of so many of the things we talk about. That Whiteness is incentivized against true equity. That Whiteness is socialized to reject input from PoC.

Wow. This story is wild. I have to be careful because it hits literally every confirmation bias I have. Rich white guys who are incompetent and waste tons of money. Republicans making shady deals and screwing people over. Right wing punditry as fall back.
bloomberg.com/news/features/…
"I got rich playing baseball. I bet that qualifies me to run a video game studio."

Check.

"A Republican governor is offering me 10s of millions of dollars to move to his state and create jobs. Seems legit."

Check.
"This loan has terrible terms and we're burning through capital at an accelerated rate. Better spend harder."

Check.

"Huh. When our new investors found out we were out of money and weren't going to deliver the game, they backed out. That's unexpected."

Check.

Okay, I'm convinced something is happening in tech founder circles. They are intentionally downsizing. I don't know why yet. But this isn't coincidence. All these assholes are connected.
Highly probable theory. There are some others though. Like they are being tipped off to some shift in the market. Or they plan to rehire at lower salaries to reset the comp market.
Notice how callous and cruel this is. Imagine being laid off and then your CEO goes on YouTube to tell everybody you were a drag on the company.

Again, there's a reason this is happening publicly. We're just not sure what it is yet.

Cleaning house.

"Yesterday, we offered everyone at Basecamp an option of a severance package... For those who cannot see a future at Basecamp under this new direction."
world.hey.com/dhh/let-it-all…
It's worth reading DHH's pay. It's kind a ramble, but there is important information there. He talks about how they failed to facilitate and meditate contentious discussion at the company.
I believe him when he says it felt disruptive. But I blame a lack of clear and decisive leadership. This is where white men like these show they lack the range. That they're not up to the task of navigating an environment where a diverse group of people all get to have a voice.

White guys: Why can't you just not care about what happens to other people?

But I am other people. It's happening to me.

White guys: I mean that sucks, but you don't have to bring it to work. Die on your own time, ya know what I mean?
White guys: We shouldn't be forced to talk about this stuff at work. It doesn't matter right?

It matters to me. I want to talk about it because it impacts my actual life.

White guys: Sorry. By "we" I mean me. I shouldn't have to hear about how you're dying. I'm trying to work.
White guys: Free speech above all else!

That's not how that works. It's about government...

White guys: No! It's a general foundation of our society!

Okay, I wanna talk about this issue...

White guys: Whoa! We're at work. The boss says you can't talk about that stuff here.
