21 Harsh Truths 2021 has already taught us

A thread...
There are many hard-working, passionate, helpful, generous people who the world will never know about.
While they are there, we won't spend time with them.
Once they are gone, we spend time regretting the times we did not spend with them.
Some people will never help you regardless of what you do.

Some people will always help you regardless of what you do.
Leadership is all about trust.
Trust is not built when things are going great.
Trust is built when things are hard and yet they show up.
No one cares about your words, until you show results.
No one cares about your results, until it benefits them.
People will always behave in whatever manner best suits them.
That means some of them will benefit you.
And some will harm you.

That is just the way it is.
The relationship you thought you always had, is truly tested when you spend 24x7 with that person, with their thoughts, with their ideologies, with their biases.

That is when some of us realize there was never a relationship!
You may be the richest, the happiest, the most ambitious or the smartest.

If you body doesn't work, you are nothing!
We are the first to close our eyes to the reality, because the truth is unsettling.
We fear the truth.
We love the lies.

Lies comfort us.
It is not the most thought-through plan that wins.
It is not the most detailed plan that wins.
It is not the most ambitious plan that wins.

It is the plan that has the agility to change itself, when required, that wins!
We all think we have time.

We have less time than we think we have!
We are slaves to our screens.
The toughest person to spend time with, is our own self.

We are scared of what we might discover.
We are scared of what we might tell ourselves.
The world is more good than bad.

But good rarely makes news.
Because good is everywhere.

The news focuses on the bad.
Because bad sells.
People could be smart.
They could be well meaning.
They could be capable.

But if they lack focus, none of it matters!
There is no worse feeling than the feeling of helplessness.
There is no worse person than the one who makes you feel helpless.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.
- Bob Marley
Just like you can't keep bad people from harming the world, you can't keep good people from helping the world.
Everyday, the numbers we read are just data points on an excel sheet.
And then one day we are that data point on an excel sheet.

Everything changes.
In that moment.
Despite every damage, every hurdle, every hurt and every tear, the world moves forward.

Because of hope.
EVERY breath you take, is a gift.
You realize it, when you fall short of it!
2021 is turning out to be a tough year.
And extremely tough year.

It is in those moments of grief, despair and hopelessness that we will find a new us.
This period will change all of us.
Make that meaningful
Do not ever let a crisis go to waste!
- Rahm Emanuel

7 ways you can help right now

A thread...
1. Be a verifier. Not a forwarder.

The worst thing for someone in need, is to navigate through tens of numbers, in order to find help.
Be it beds, oxygen, medicines or any other critical supply.

So the next time you see a forward on WhatsApp and DON’t forward it. Instead...
...call those numbers up, verify them and then share it with those in need, with your stamp of verification.

Please use your time to help others.

10 times I almost gave up hope.

A thread...
Class 6
Dad had just lost his job. We were under severe debt. Desperate for money, he started working at a corporate gifts biz.
That night, we had to fill ball pens with refill, to be paid per 100 pens.

The room was full of pens. And I was like "how will we ever fill them all?"
Dad was like, "we are 3 of us. We can fill 3 pens each every min. So 9 pens every min. Which means in a night we can do 3000 pens! Wow"

And I was like "wowwww!"

We filled pens the whole night.
He gave me hope.
We made it! :)

7 equations for living life

A thread...
Equation #1
Failure + Reflection = Learning

When we says that failure leads to learning, it is a lie.
Everyone fails in their life.
But not everyone learns something from their failure.

There is something between failure and learning, that exists.
It is reflection.
Reflecting on what happened.

Q1:
What did I not know back then, that I know today?

Q2:
What belief did I have back then, that I know is not true today?

10 bitter truths about how we live our lives

A thread...
Bitter Truth #1
Most life advice is simple.
Not easy.
Simple!

But...
"It can't be this simple. There has to be a more complex explanation."

And we keep searching for that complexity.
We do not believe most things that we should believe in, simply because they are "too simple".

The art of cold emailing

A thread...
Cold emailing is the act of sending an email (or a DM) to someone who doesn’t know you (hence the word, cold!)

Every day I get 300+ emails, most from those I do not know, and a shocking number of them are poorly written.

Here are 10 things that work for emails that I reply to
1. A different (but not aggressive) subject line

Ask yourself, what is the most likely subject line that EVERYONE will tend to write.
And then DO NOT write that.

What works?
Personalization (I think Vidur and Uzma will love this)
Intrigue (This is when I first saw you)
