OSUN-OSOGBO SACRED GROVE.

Osun-Osogbo sacred groove is famed to be the spiritual abode of the river goddess Osun.

Set within the forest, sanctuary are forty shrines, sculptures and art works erected in honor of 'Osun' and Yorùbá dieties.
Tourists, adventures are welcome to confirm this myth,after all seeing is believing.

Osun-Osogbo sacred grove is a sacred forest along the banks of the Osun river just outside the city of Osogbo.
The grove is believed to have a supernatural healing powers that cures iliness, diseases and most especially barrenness.

Osun-Osogbo sacred grove is dedicated to 'Osun' the Yorùbá goddess of fertility and good fortune.
Scared groves used to be found near every Yorùbá settlement.

But their disappearance over time has made Osun-Osogbo an important reference point for Yorùbá identity and heritage.

The story told,is that the early settlers intended to clear the trees in the area for settlement.

As they began falling the trees,a voice from the river instructed them to move away.

Immediately,the place turned to be a sacred place of worship for devotees.
Osun-Osogbo sacred grove was left unkempt, termites had eroded the shrines.

Until the arrival of an Australian artist Susanne Wenger also known as "Adunni Olorisha".

Wenger introduced a robust form of art,she partnered with local artists in Osogbo
To redevelop and redecorate the Osun-Osogbo sacred grove with sculptures and craving the various activities of the Orishas.

The image of a suspension bridge was constructed within the sacred grove in 1935👇.
Osun-Osogbo grove has some few restricted Zones.

1)Ata Oja's palace;

(Ata Oja is the title of the traditional ruler of Osogbo land) the zone is believed to be the meeting of the Ogboni confraternity.

2)Igbo Ifa: forest of Ifa.

The parrot is known as Odidere(although often called Ayekooto) in Yorùbá.

The name is indeed a pensive one.

Ayekooto means "the world rejects the truth".

According to oral history, a farmer was enticed by the Lorikeet bird and he brought in the bird
To stay with him in his house.

Lorikeet has the ability to speaks fluently like humans and also has the ability to record words.

On one fateful day, a buffalo belonging to the neighbor of the farmer walked to the farm of Lorikeet keeper.
The farmer killed the buffalo,he smoked some part and cooked some part.

Few hours after,the owner of the buffalo came to the farm and asked his neighbor.

If the buffalo walked into his farm or not?

The answer of the farmer was, No.

The Intriguing story of ADÉGBÖRÒ.

The story that birth the Yorùbá Adage;

"ENI TÍ Ó LE SE ALÁBÀÁRU L'ÓYÍNGBÒ, KÒ LE SE BÌ ADÉGBÖRÒ L'ÓJÀ OBA".

Adégbörò was born in Ibadan Oyo state and later left Ibadan for Lagos in search of greener pasture.
When he got to Lagos and thought about what to do.

He later settled to work as a carrier using his head(Alàbàárú) at Òyingbò market to earn a living.

Adégbörò was so dilligent and industrious that after few years,he brought a cart from his saving.
And this eased the pain of carrying loads on his head.

The cart also increased his income, Adégbörò continued saving.

Instead of spending the money he was making on himself.

He denied himself pleasure and easy living.

Before the advent of Oduduwa, to ancient Ile-Ife, called ugbomokun.

Ile-Ife existed as a confredacy of sixteen communities.

These communities have been identified in present day Ile-Ife; Iwirin,Ideta, Ido,Iloran, Iloromu, Imojubi, Iraye, Ijugbe
Odin, Oke-oja, Oke-Awo Omologun and parakin.

Osangangan Obamakin ruled from Iwirin, Obatala ruled from Ideta, Olojudo ruled from Ido.

These kings also have their cabinet of chiefs and were the sixteen elders who held the spiritual foundation upon which
Yorùbá land is laid.

Each of these kings wore beaded crown: Osangangan Obamakin ruled from Iwirin led the sixteen communities.

21ST LÙWOO GBÀGÌDÁ; the first and only female Ooni of Ife.

Ooni Luwoo Gbàgìdá was a woman who ruled as the Ooni of Ife.
She was said to be the 21st Ooni of Ife.

She took over the throne after the demise of Ooni GIESI and was succeeded by Ooni Lumobi. Image
It is reported that Ooni Luwoo was a beautiful and sophiscated queen who took pride in her physical appearance and that of her surroundings.

She was noted to ride lazy men as horses for violating her lawd and was a terror to slackers.
Maybe that was the reason they said her reign was filled with terror and fear especially by men.

Ooni Luwoo Gbàgìdá was said to hate injustice and cheating.

Queen Luwoo was said not to spare the menfolk when they offend her or her constituted authority.

ILU AJE(Town of Witches)
A town in Oyo state.

There is a small town on your way to Oyo, just behind Fiditi.
It's called "Ilu Aje" which literally,translates to "Town of Witches".

Ilu Aje is relatively large rustic community with vast lands located between
Ilora and Jobele towns in Afijo Local Government Area of Oyo state.

In the late 80s, there used to be a sign board in Fiditi that pointed to the path to the village,the signboard had the inscription.

The list of all 51 Ooni's of Ife till date.

1st ODÙDUWÀ: Odùduwà was the Ooni of Ile-Ife.
According to tradition,he was the holder of the title of Ile-Ife.

His name,phonetically written by Yorùbá language-speakers as Odùduwà and sometimes contracted
As Ooduwa,Oduduwa or Oòdua.

Oduduwa,Olofin Adimula,was the first Ooni with the title "Olofin".
