Since the #JobsReport just came out, let's use this data to take yet another look at the 2020 election and Trump's Big Lie.

US Presidents don't usually see a net loss of jobs in one term. Almost never. But it happened with Trump.

When it happens, it's not good for re-election. Image
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics keeps monthly jobs reports going back as far as 1939.
data.bls.gov/timeseries/CES…

Which means that we have the full set of jobs reports for every Presidential term since Roosevelt's third term which started in 1941.
There have been 20 total four-year Presidential terms between that third Roosevelt term beginning in 1941 and Trump's term ending in 2021. All those jobs reports are online.

13 of those terms were held by a President who was running to be elected to an additional term in office. Image
Now if you add all of the monthly job reports that were compiled from each of those Presidents' first full month in office (February, right after they were inaugurated) until right before the election (October the year of the next election), only twice has there been a net loss. Image
By October, 2004, as George W. Bush was running for re-election, the US had a net loss of 251,000 jobs over the course of his term in office.

Bush ended his first term with a very bare gain of jobs over the course of the first term as the 12/04 and 1/05 reports were good. Image
Bush ended up winning re-election in 2004. But it was a close call. A single state, Ohio, determined the winner. And Bush won by the slimmest electoral and popular vote margin of any President who won re-election in this whole time span (at least since Roosevelt). Image
By October, 2020, as Trump was seeking a second term (and as he was in the hospital battling for his life from COVID), the jobs story was much worse. With the recession, the US had lost 3 million jobs in Trump's term by that point in time. 12 times the number Bush was down by. Image
Trump lost the election of 2020. The only other President in the history of the BLS stats who had a net loss of jobs by right before the election was Bush, whose losses were much less and who won by a very slim margin.

Being down 3 million jobs doesn't help you win re-election. Image
Now as you can see from the graphic, gaining a lot of jobs doesn't necessarily get you re-elected either. Carter oversaw the second-most jobs added to US payrolls in his term. But there was a recession in 1980 when he sought re-election. For many reasons, he lost. Image
Ford was in the middle of the pack in this list in terms of jobs created. The US was in a recession the year before the 1976 election. And Ford, unlike every other President, was never elected either President or Vice President. He lost. Image
George H.W. Bush, after winning a war and at one point in time having an 89% approval rating, did not have a net loss of jobs at the time of the 1992 election which he lost. He faced not only a vibrant competitor in Bill Clinton but had a strong third party candidate, Ross Perot. Image
But George H.W. Bush lost his bid for a second term. And he took the loss like a man. He didn't spend the rest of his life lying to whoever would listen that he really won. And he didn't incite a bunch of crazed followers into attacking the US Capitol. Miss those days. Image
As voters were deciding whether or not Donald J. Trump would get another term in office, the US had lost a net 3 million jobs over the course of his Presidency; most of the jobs were lost just in the previous seven months. There was a recession the year of the election. Image
And in addition to the dire jobs situation, Trump also had the lowest average Gallup approval ratings in the nine decade history of that poll. His highest ever Gallup poll (49%) was considerably lower than for any other President.

And yet some are like "I don't believe he lost." Image
Trump is the only President since Herbert Hoover to have had a net loss of jobs occur during his term (George W. Bush managed to break even for his first term).
He was also the first since Hoover to have his party lose the White House, House and the Senate in the span of a four year Presidential term.

One of only four US Presidents in history to never win more votes than any of his leading competitors in a US Presidential Election.

I remain convinced that one of the reason a lot of people who most view Republican Party membership as integral part of their identity cannot bring themselves to admit that Biden and Trump are not equally flawed individuals is because to do so would introduce a personal crisis.
It’s hard enough to exist in a social bubble in which everyone around you is MAGA or MAGA-amenable and to say you don’t like Trump.

Those of you who live in towns, go to churches and work at jobs in which not liking Trump is a strike against you know what I’m saying.
Being in that awkward situation, the safest of the bad options, socially speaking, is to just say that they’re both bad. And you might sincerely believe it. But you probably don’t truly believe that Biden is some moral equivalent of Trump. Because very few are. He’s a reprobate.

I urge people to take note of those in Congress who vote against aid to Ukraine. And vow to never vote for them again under any circumstances.

Vladimir Putin invaded a sovereign country for no reason. Killed innocent civilians. Kidnapped children. His soldiers raped women.
Some Christians have been deeply deluded into believing that Vladimir Putin “shares our values” in some way or had good motives. He is a MURDERER! And a THIEF! If you think he shares your Christian values, it’s really time to evaluate where your relationship with the Lord is.
Some people think that what happens in Ukraine is not our concern. It is.

Vladimir Putin’s allies in Russia talk, quite openly, about what they will do if they succeed in overtaking Ukraine. They say they will attack Poland. Or Romania. Or other NATO nations.

Today is the day that we commemorate the day on which Jesus the Christ, God the Son, who took on human flesh and lived a perfect human life, willingly died in our place and took the ultimate punishment for our sins.

And then this happened.
“And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.
They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.”
(Matthew 27:50-53, NIV)

I don’t get how some people feel as devoted to their political party as we’re supposed to about more important things.

You divorced your wife.
Stopped speaking to your dad.
Cut off your best friend.

But you just can’t bring yourself to cast one vote for the other party!
I understand a little bit - far less than the struggle that some of my friends have had or are having.

I’m pro-life and though I always had a problem with Trump, I also had an issue with Democrats. Would not vote for them for any office.

And then came two years of Trump.
I thought that the Republicans would keep Trump in check at least a little bit. But they were all afraid of him. Very few commented after Charlottesville for example. I got pissed and in 2018, I voted for some Democrats.

But, I actually felt slightly guilty.

Joe Biden has a long list of accomplishments in office and I'm going to spend some time comparing his versus the other recent presidents. Because that's a hobby of mine.

But you also have to take a look at what he inherited. Versus what Trump inherited. Very different. Image
Of all the Presidential terms that began during the last 30 years, Biden started his term with the second shortest time since the last recession (Obama inherited one).

And Trump started his with the second longest time since the last recession. A relative cakewalk. Good times. Image
Obama, in 2009, inherited pure unadulterated hell. Great Recession. Two of America's three major automakers were declaring bankruptcy. Look at the numbers.

Things were not much better when Biden took office. And Americans were literally dropping like flies during the pandemic. Image

All of us, no matter what color we are or where our ancestors came from, are biological brothers and sisters. We all ultimately came from a common set of parents. And most of us want to get along with each other.

But you know who doesn’t want us to get along?
There are some hard core racists out there as well as some softer core racists. But they’re not the reason why we seem to be sliding backwards in a lot of ways. There have always been people like that. They just sometimes have been quieter than they are now.
But there are people who I call racial resentment pimps. Tucker Carlson filled this role for years before moving to the potentially more lucrative Russian propaganda market. There are a bunch of others whose every waking moment is spent stoking rage. “Look at that black mermaid!”
