As per Gregorian Calendar, Today is #MahaRanaPratapJayanti

#Thread
Maharana Pratap was Born to Queen Jaiwanta Bai and Rana Udai Singh, on May 9, 1540, in the Fort of Kumbhalgarh.
After fall of Chittor in 1569, Rana Udai Singh retired to Udaipur, and Died 3 years later in Gogunda.

Pratap's Brother Jagmal was Named successor but he was Devoid of qualities.

Jagmal was Absent during last rites of his father, hence Chieftains of mewar choose Pratap as Rana.
Soon after, Akbar was looking to make mewar Submit to Imperial yoke.

Akbar sent 3 messengers to Maharana in 1573.

June 1573: Man singh of Amber
Oct 1573: Bhagwan Das of Amber
Dec 1573: Raja Todarmal

Pratap Rejected the offer to Join Akbar in all 3 Occasions.
A Clash was Inevitable!

Preparations began on both sides. Finally in Blistering Heat of June 21, 1576, Mewar and Mughal Armies Came Face to Face.

Place: Khamnur Village, Haldi Ghati Pass.

This battle alone requires very detailed Explanation, but I'll try to cover it in short.
In Short, Initial Attack of Mewar was So Fierce that Centre and Left Flank of Mughal Army was Destroyed.

Later, they started a rumour that Akbar himself was coming to battle with Huge Reinforcement.

Finally, due to numerical Superiority of mughals, mewar Army had to retreat.
Haldi Ghati was not The End!

Akbar wanted to capture Pratap Alive.

He kept pouring in Men and Money to Invade the Hilly parts of mewar and Capture pratap Alive, but to No avail.

Maharana kept Fighting using Guerilla tactics and Inflicted Heavy losses on Mughal Forces.
On The Day of Vijayadashami in 1582, Maharana Attacked this Hilly Mughal Garrison of Dewair.

It's Cheif Sultan khan Was Killed in Battle and Soon Garrison surrendered To Maharana.

Soon, Maharana Captured 36 other Garrisons, and recovered large part of Mewar.
Akbar kept Pouring Men and Money till 1587.

But, all of that Was Useless Now.

After 1587, Akbar decided to Give up his dream of Capturing Mewar, and Moved to Lahore in Order to concentrate on NW India.
Years of Guerilla Warfare, and Harsh Life of Mountains Took a Toll on Health of Maharana.

He was Injured in a Hunting Accident and Later died After a Short Illness on January 19, 1597.

He was Cremated at Chavand.

***End of Thread***
PS: this is only a Short thread Giving General overview of Life of Maharana Pratap.

Battle of Haldighati will be described in a separate thread in near future

What's the Link Between an Art Dealer From Hongkong and a 3000 year old Proof of Mahabharata?

THREAD:
Jeremy Pine, a Hong Kong Based Art Dealer, bought this 9 CM wide clay Tablet from Nepal.

Curious to know more about it, he contacted Nandita krishna from CPR institute of Indological Research.
The image showed 4 horses drawing a War chariot having 2 figures, where one Figure was pointing Forward.

This was quite similar to Sri Krishna and Arjuna from Battlefield of mahabharata

History Behind Blue Robes of Nihangs.

[Thread]
On assuming command, 10th guru govind started plundering neighborhood areas to raise money.

Mughal fojdars hunted him down and he was forced to to stay hidden.

Then, he enlisted the help of Afghans (Moslem Fakirs) to get him to safety in exchange for money.
They asked him to grow his hairs and beard, and gave him short blue tunic to wear, just like themselves. And carried him throughout the region in safety.

Feeling lucky to be in safety, thus he adopted this attire (Long hairs and blue robes) for his men.
