At a time of global pandemic, with cases still occurring in schools, it is utterly ridiculous that the main priority for most teachers in secondary schools this year has been meeting the demands of an increasingly out of touch examination body.
The SQA has repeatedly changed tack, increased workload for staff, expecting them to complete most of the exam board's work with no additional time, in a way which meets their demands and now seeks to blame schools for the flaws inherent in the system it wanted implemented.
All the while the students are placed under increasing pressures by schools planning assessments in a way that is hoped to give them the best chance of meeting the demands of SQA.
When challenged about this SQA blames schools and LAs for their interpretation of instructions.
When, somewhat predictably, some assessment material makes it into the public domain via social media, SQA threaten students and schools with sanctions, again seeking to apportion blame to schools for allowing this to happen.
It's clear that those in charge at SQA have no interest in addressing the needs of learners or schools this year, despite the ongoing pandemic. It's likely that they've not yet finished making a bad situation worse and they'll ensure they are not blamed when it all goes wrong.
