This would be EXTREMELY significant for #MOSEN. It would allow lots and lots of GOP candidates to run, and it wouldn't guarantee @EricGreitens would be the GOP nominee if he can't win a runoff.
This would affect statewide elections, congressional elections and U.S. Senate elections. It would last for two elections (2022 and 2024).
. @JillSchupp said she doesn't quite understand the impetus behind the runoff idea. She wants to know how much this is going to cost. Schupp, of course, ran for #MO2 last cycle.
. @JillSchupp also doesn't like a provision that would ban third parties from donating to election authorities. This is clearly in response to $$$ from the Center for Tech and Civic Life: stltoday.com/news/local/gov…
The Gateway Pundit wrote an article about how this money was used for "ballot harvesting," which @EFeyStl noted was already illegal in Missouri:
The underlying bill would prohibit courts from re-writing ballot language that's written by the General Assembly. That was a big issue with Amendment 3 (the anti-Clean Missouri amendment). Though when you think about it, the judge-written summary was... pretty bad for Clean MO!
Sen. Hegeman presenting a big amendment that includes a photo ID requirement to vote, as well as a six-week in person no excuse absentee voting.
. @BobOnderMO says he has heartburn over the no excuse absentee period. He would rather have people vote in person on Election Day.
I've written extensively about MO's excuse-based absentee system. Vast consensus of both Republican and Democratic election officials is that it's unenforceable & it scares people into thinking they're committing a crime they'll never be prosecuted for: news.stlpublicradio.org/government-pol…
. @BobOnderMO offering an amendment to remove no excuse in person absentee period.
There is no way that Senate Democrats are going to support a bill with a photo ID requirement. So taking out the no excuse in person absentee period (which is already a compromise to eliminating the excuse system altogether) would likely prompt an all hands on deck filibuster.
. @Dougbeck562 now bringing up the large cost of election authorities have to run a runoff election in August. He's also wondering if working people will have time or interest in participating in three elections between June and November.
Sen. Hegeman withdrew his photo ID/no excuse in person absentee amended.

If you were following the #moleg on Tuesday, you may have noticed that lawmakers ended up completing work on some issues that have been long sought — but have never made it to the finish line.
Perhaps the biggest news was the House passed a gas tax increase, which has been a major priority for @DaveSchatz26 and other GOP leaders. Missouri's 17-cent per gallon tax will go up 2.5 cents for the next five years: news.stlpublicradio.org/government-pol…
. @GovParsonMO will likely sign the measure. While it received support from some rural lawmakers and House Democrats, it had to withstand blistering criticism from GOP legislators before finally passing: news.stlpublicradio.org/government-pol…
