PERSPECTIVE:

For as brave as Liz Cheney has been in standing up against her own party, we can't lose sight of the fact that for the entire previous 4 years, she supported everything about Trump and the GQP.

So while she should be commended for doing the right thing now, she's part of the reason for her own expulsion from leadership. She has hoisted herself on her own petard. Cheney now claims she intends to defend democracy.

But ironically, she was silent through all of the previous threats to democracy through and because of Trump's history of interactions with Putin. The fact is she is an avowed conservative, and she has committed to remain just that. To be clear, she may hate Trump, but is GQP.

So no one should expect her to convert to being a Democrat, liberal or progressive. But you cannot defend democracy without defending voting rights, and still support the GQP agenda of voter suppression laws in states across the nation. Those things antithetical to each other.

So if she is telling the truth, she MUST publicly commit to supporting HR-1 and HR-4. She cannot stand with the long-term conservative orthodoxy and support voting rights at the same time. Meanwhile, despite the din and fury of the intra-party fight, we must remain focused.

Liberal and Progressives have to be careful to not be so distracted by the Cheney-GQP fight that we lose sight of our own war to defend voting rights. So we should be slow to lionize her. Her fight is important, but ours is critical. So maximum caution is required.
