"intellectual property" a way for government to wrangle some of the control over corporations back from media & commentariat. #dmutc
2/ the gov largely controls corpos through property and monetary policy.
conversely, the media & commentariat controls corps through opinion & branding, and through the workers.
3/ the branding and the worker's know-how being tied down to the company by "intellectual property" shifts the control partly away from the journalists & commentariat and back to the government.
which is less bad, obviously.
4/ this is particularly relevant in case of capital-light corpos, like entertainment & digital services - where without "intellectual property", there would be little else than the workers & the branding - both very much at the mercy of the media & commentariat.
