Question: How much will I SPEND to become a permanent resident in Canada as an immigrant?
The answer to this question is not as straightforward as many people think. But as promised, I made a budget for you
As of today, it is AT LEAST $2,050CAD... the breakdown is below
Thread
As of today, you will spend AT LEAST $2,050 CAD to process a permanent residence application in Canada (by yourself) as a skilled immigrant.
This is based on certain conditions I explained below.
You may also need to SHOW the proof of settlement funds. So, don't leave meee yet!
Any time I get the question "how much will I spend to be a permanent resident in Canada?", the first answer in my head is "it depends"
What you will spend depends on many things (family size, profile, PR Program, exchange rate, etc)
But this is a breakdown of what to budget for
When applying for permanent residency in Canada, the general things you will spend money on are:
- Language tests
- Degree Assessment
-Medical Test
-Application & Biometric fee
-Police Certificate
- The settlement funds (you only need to show proof of the money you have for this)
The $2,050 budget above is based on the conditions that you are:
- A SINGLE applicant
- Writing the language test (IELTS) once
- Doing your application yourself (no authorized rep)
- Transcript fee for Credential Assessment (and other fees, i.e for passports are not included).
Budget Breakdown
IELTS $250/more
Degree Assessment: $220/more
Medicals $135/more (based on country)
Application Fee $1,325/more (based on family size)
Biometric fee: $85/more (based on family size)
Police certificate: $35/more (based on country)
Settlement funds (See next Tweet)
As I said, you may also need to show proof of settlement funds. This will depend on the PR program/family size.
If you’re applying as a family, the additional costs you may incur are:
- Payment of the $1,325 application/right of PR Fee for your spouse
- Payment of $225 application fee for each child
- Biometric fee of $170 for family applicants
- Police reports for family members above 18
Additional costs for all applicants:
- If you, your spouse, or other family members have lived in any other country for 6 months or more in a row in the last 10 years, you also need Police Reports from the countries.
You don't need a Police Report for the time spent in Canada.
Lastly, you may incur additional costs on
- Transportation
-Transcripts
-Rewriting IELTS
-Writing a second language test for more points
-Degree assessment/language test for Spouse, and/or
- Provincial nomination, if needed
So, my advice is to always take it one step at a time!
If you have little money, start with getting your passport.
Then start degree evaluation, then IELTS, then save for your proof of settlement funds, etc.
Take it one step at a time!
If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that only a few people have it all when they started.
And for those asking, you will only provide your proof of settlement funds, and pay the application/right of PR/biometric fees after you have accepted the invitation to apply for PR, and you are ready to submit all final documents
If this is of help to you, share it with others.
