Societies in terms or attitudes and cultures naturally reflect the values that have shaped them over time. In a dynamic world and as more connectedness increases, these values also evolve. The younger generation will always be the frontline of change.
As the speed of connectedness increases, change may may also be faster and very dramatic and disruptive. Contemporary South Africa carries the legacy of racialized apartheid exclusion that it must reverse and replace with equitable inclusion at all levels.
It is a task and journey that will also be shaped and guided by evolving new values and attitudes that will reflect growing awareness for diversity and social justice. So, transformation will always be an outcome of changing values and attitudes.
This is the challenge of organisations in South Africa. Transformation is not an exercise in conforming to the law and rules. It is a deliberate effort to reflect the evolving social values and attitudes. Organisations need to have the contextual intelligence
to understand and embrace the new movement trending towards diversity and social justice. Read and reflect carefully on the case study in Ch 9 of:

On this day that marks the selfless nursing profession, I reflected on why others deemed it necessary to to selfishly appropriate for themselves the critical funds that were meant for the PPEs and improvement of the working conditions (toilets; kitchens etc)
Our social services (Education; Policing; Health; water and sewage treatment plants) have been neglected and degraded.
What kind of human being sees opportunities for self enrichment given this situation? The harshest punishment must be meted.
What is sad is that in many cases political leaders were involved and providing protection cover.
This is so evil.

I have argued, in all my OP-Eds since 2009, that the Tripartite Alliance is an irrelevant construct. It was in fact designed as a State Capture Deal/Design to primarily control the governing party to ensure policy formulation benefits its members 1st.
This has succeeded magnificently over the time as can be seen from reforms in the labour laws. The poor and rest of the citizens were 2nd in line. This explains why the ANC has never developed a labour inclusive policy and strategy except in public statements.
Jay Naidoo has confirmed this view when he states that the Alliance died after 1996 when govmnt adopted the GEAR policy after abandoning the RDP.

The kind of business that will be successful on a sustainable basis in the 21st Century is one in which ownership is shared equitably by all who work in it. The current divide between CEOs; Executives and workers Must end. Improved German model is way to go.
The deal that has been struck at the prestigious wine maker Diemersfontein is a lesson to all wine farms in this industry. Other industries Must follow. The problem is that the greed of shareholders prevents better imagination.
What Covid-19 pandemic has reminded us is that we are inter-dependent. It is morally unjustifiable that shareholders and share incentivised executives take all distributable profits and people that produced the profits get nothing. This must change.

On this special day in the memory of our democracy and the legacy we inherited, it is worth reflecting on one of the most important values we wish to see in the party in government;
Policies that reflect a high level of consciousness for social justice
1/4
The slogan "A Better Life for All" must be replaced by; "A Lasting Better Life for All"
Every govmnt policy must be tested on whether and how it can advance this strategic intent and vision.
A public monitoring system must be developed for evaluation
2/4
A capable public system must be developed incrementally and with clear milestones and legislated framework.
Its role must be to deliver efficient services effectively.
And only the best must be employed in decision making positions to deliver services

On its own the framework will not get traction. Our current public service orientation is anchored in the ANC policy doc authored by Netshitenzhe in 1996 and the deployment policy that followed thereafter. When Vincent Maphai rexommemded for change
around 2006, Thabo Mbeki clearly stated the Alliance was not ready. The Purpose was clear then and practice reflected that political policy stand. Change now must articulated and anchored in a clear party policy resolution that supports the 2020 Framework.
Whereas the thrust points to a desire for change, there must be unequivocal political policy statement and resolution.
The Framework would need to have clarity of Purpose and be specific on actionable strategic intent and plans.

Today (Good Friday) I was in conversation with God as I struggled but preserved through my 6 Km walk through the Winelands WC (which is now our home).
I stated with conviction that social justice Shall be attained in our nascent democracy.
I asked for wisdom and guidance for our political leaders and NGOs as we tackle the current and complex issue and challenge of Land Reform as an important factor in the effort to achieve of social justice. We shall succeed in the end if we listen to advice.
I asked for blessings for the encouraging small steps like the equity restructuring at the famous Diemersfontein Winery where its highly skilled workers have concluded a 3yr arrangement to take total control via a special Workers Trust. We need to see more.
