While we're talking bipartisan commissions, a reminder lawmakers including @AOC called for one to investigate Trump's forced separation of over 5,500 parents from kids, called "torture" by @P4HR and "government-sanctioned child abuse" by @AmerAcadPeds. vox.com/policy-and-pol…
This month @SecMayorkas told me accountability for those responsible for separations could be looked at by the Biden reunification task force when it’s “far further along” in the process of putting families back together.
President Biden himself called the policy "criminal" in the final debate with President Trump, and said there would be a "thorough, thorough investigation" of it as President-Elect.
So far, none of the above has happened. No announced investigation. No bipartisan commission.

NEW: I first met Anna, a U.S. citizen, and her undocumented mom at start of Trump admin. Checked in with them as she gets ready to graduate HS. They feel safer, but worry border politics could hurt her folks' chance at citizenship under Biden, leaving them at risk of separation.
